I remember seeing this feature in a few cars, maybe back in the 90's? I think it was only a few Japanese cars. There was a button under the center HVAC vents, I think it was called sweep. It would make the center vents sweep side-to-side. What cars was this offered on?
I'm sitting here with a few car guys and none of them has heard it. I told them I'd run it by the automotive specific google site; GRM.

I know that the '92-ish MX-6 had those

Yup, the 626s had 'em. Some at least.

My '89 626 LX had them. Oscillating Center Vents, I believe was the term Mazda used. I don't think it was offered on the DX.

Seems they carried it on through the 90's. According to this review, it was available on the '99 626:

I think the 2nd gen honda preludes had that too.

Everything on my '89 626 worked when I sold it after DD'ing it for 14 years. C'mon, it's a Mazda!

I seem to remember some Honda having that feature too, but I can't remember what year or model.

More accurately, it's a GD chassis Mazda. I'm unsure that anything else they've made is as "cockroach-y" as these things.

Yeah, I'll admit that some of the electrical stuff on my '88 RX-7 Turbo II is a little flaky.

Edit: However, my 2005 MPV has been rock-solid also, even with the Ford engine.

Really? BG chassis cars seem awfully tough, the B-trucks as well, and probably the MX-5, too. RX-7's of the era seem good outside of the systems added to the engine to keep it happier. 929's are probably not as good from all of the gadgets and automatic transmissions that don't age especially well.

Honestly, an F2T in an RX-7 tintop should run approximately forever, right?

The GD chassis > BG chassis when it comes to sheer longevity, strength, and build quality as far as i'm concerned. Not by a small margin, either.

I have rather extensive experience with both.

The 929 i'd agree is probably about as durable as the GD, save for the transmission, and really maybe the engine. The JE itself is a sound engine, but sensor/electrically, it doesn't seem to be stellar. The interior material quality seems similar to the GD, though!

What chassis is the 1st gen Protege, because those things never die, either.

Also, the oscillating center vents were awesome. My MX-6 had them. I also remember a Honda with them, but damn if I can remember what it was.

In reply to Javelin:

1st gen Protege = BG. There's about a half dozen cars built on that chassis or very close cousins.

The Mazda GC chassis ('83-'87 626) had them also.
