I'm wondering just how dumb an idea it is to trade a Miata in, for another Miata. Here's my problem. I don't really like my Miata. For starters, I never wanted an SE. I don't like the wood interior (although it does look nice). I like the color, but mine is not in the best condition. Plus I've had so many problems with this one. And there just so happens to be not one, but two excellent 02's for sale near me. Both of them are LS's I believe. But both of them are flawless. Good paint, tops are in great shape, interiors look good. So how bad an idea is it to trade a car that I haven't paid off, in for another car that's practically the same?

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. As long as you aren't terribly upside down on the loan, there is no sense paying for a car you don't like.

It took me years to find a good white miata(I always bought the best available car and it seemed to be red). I put it on jackstands next to my last red miata and swapped parts for two weekends. I then sold the red miata. It was worth the effort because I really like the white car even though it has the same feel as the previous car.
Get the car that you like and do whatever deal you have to make to make it happen.
