Girlfriend and I went out and saw Tropic Thunder last night. It was hilarious and fantastic. Robert Downey Jr. was comic brilliance and Tom Cruise has done something that may reinvigorate and possibly save his career.
It is wonderfully foul without resorting to constant fart jokes, and manages to play the insane over-the-top stuff so smoothly that they don't break the suspension of disbelief.
Hilarious.
But DO NOT take the kids. It got an R for a reason.
I swear, I just thought there'd be a few bad words and maybe a gratuitious boob shot
I actually don't recall any Boob shots. No actual nudity. Just a LOT of language, and some violence: -click- -POP-
Yeah... that's what I thought there would be. Instead, there was a non-stop torrent of language that would make a sailor blush, and some pretty gross stuff.
It was funny, just absolutely not appropriate for the kids. Don't want anyone else making my mistake.

Can Tom Cruise save his career?
Tough call.

When I was about 10, Dad took me to the movies to see what he thought was a nice film about a canoe trip....

I truly realized how nuts the Animaniacs writers were when they did a Jerry Lewis/Dean Martin-Lewis and Clarke skit. The local inbreds were chasing the Lewis and Clarke characters down the river in canoes and the Lewis character said "Me no wanna squeal like a piggy"
Tom Cruise was in it? I like his acting - I just have a hard time taking him seriously anymore in any of his roles (or as a person).
Went to see it. I am going to say 8 out of 10. That makes it a very good movie and worth seeing. Tom Cruise did do a GREAT job, probably the singe best performance of the movie, and restored a little bit of my respect for him. I had originally thought that the whole Robert Downey jr. in black face thing was just a stunt to get attention but the way he played the role made it great.

Totally o/t, but do you remember the Animaniacs at Woodstock toon? They did an awesome job making an band-oriented version of the "Who's on first?" skit.

I do. But it wasn't that great, at least not compared to the original. They just had "Who" and "Yes".
Animaniacs was only ostensibly for kids. I mean, they freakin' referenced Citizen Kane in the themesong!
Dana and I and the MIL went on Sunday. Three thumbs up. In fact, Mom-in-law took FIL back today and they both loved it. It reminds me of everything I used to love about the old Ben Stiller Show. It's proof you can be extremely self-aware without constantly winking at the camera.

It had moments, but overall I didn't think it was that funny.
I thought Stepbrothers was about 4 times as funny.
I refuse to see it, it looks SOOO dumb.
"what will I do without you Ben Stiller?"
"you will have to learn to move on Peter"
