When I was a couple years longer I went through quite the graphic novel collecting phase. I liked to buy Japanese manga books (the ones printed right to left.) I accumulated a whole lot of them. Something over 200. It's a little less now I think.
Now I'm finding that, after multiple reads and a few years of growing up, that I value the space these books are taking up more than I value the books themselves. I sold a few on Ebay but it seems like that site gets more annoying to deal with every time I go back.
Any suggestions on a good way to unload these books?
Amazon seems to take waaaay too big of a cut to make selling items that cost only a couple bucks each worthwhile.

They're cut is much, much smaller than the combined FleeBay listing fees, final value fees, and PayPal fees. Plus, if you ship Media Mail you can usually make a buck or two on the shipping credit.
I made the switch from eBay to Amazon totally about 6 months ago and saw the difference between gross and net decrease by a good 10-15%. Not to mention no sleazy PayPal practices of trying to lock up my real bank account or taking 7 days to "deposit" my money.
That said, it's gotta be worth at least $5 to be worth your time. Anything less and you're better off finding a local used book store. If it's worth 2 cents on Amazon I can usually get $2 locally, and a $1 on Amazon usually equates to $4 locally.
Do you live in or near a fairly large city? Just about any largish city has a used bookstore or someplace that specializes in used CDs and DVDs, that might also be interested in your books.
I had the same "problem" with my huge collection of SciFi paperbacks. I really wanted to keep them, but the space issue and needing to cart them from one address to the next got old. So I sold them them to a used book store.
And that's what it comes down to. I don't think I'd be able to sell these books for more than $1 or $2 each. Maybe $3 at the most, but then again, I am thinking in yard sale prices, maybe I should charge more.
For some reason, the used bookstores around here don't seem to be a fan of comics. They only paid me about $1 for 10 books and I haven't been back since.
I did try Craigslist. My ad's been up for a week with 0 responses.
Is there a forum for that kinda stuff? Seems like that would be the best place to unload the goods.
^^^This is why I come here.^^^
Yes, I suppose there is. My long love of cars has kept me from ever really searching for non-car-related forums, but there's probably niche forums for each individual series I have books of. Brilliant!
Try to find some other folks that want to get rid of their manga/anime stuff as well, and rent a seller's booth at a convention? You'd probably lose money if you rented a booth on your own, but sharing it with several like-minded people, you might come out a couple of bucks ahead..
I'm interested in any Initial D you might have. Somehow over 4 moves my collection shrunk from 20 or so to 3. At least I have issue 17 where he races against the Eunos roadster. I lost track around episode 20 (in English) but would love to own them again.
Titles would help. I'd love to have the Akira phone books.
depending on content, donate to the local hospitals. I'm sure the kids in the cancer ward would love new reading material. And maybe the grown ups, too! :)
I've done that with my former collection. And cherry picked my faves.
Here's the list on my craigslist ad. Prices would naturally include shipping if they needed to be shipped.

Sorry, I don't seem to be able to post links on my phone, you'll have to copy and paste.
Sorry I only just got time to list the titles. Copied from the ad. I do have a bunch of Initial D btw.

Find a local comics shop and see what they'll give you for them. It won't be a great return but it will be easy and cash.
If you itemize your deductions (Schedule A) and your library is a 501c3 (pretty much all are) you can write off the fair market value of the books you donate to them. My tax guy recommends $1 for paperback and $3 for hardback.
My library provides a nice form with the exact number of soft/hard back books I donated, the time, date, & location of the drop-off, and the librarian that accepted the materials.
I appreciate the element of legitimacy in an otherwise farcical barrage of charitable contributions I claim each year
Damn, I just moved and dropped a bunch of books of at the library, good to know.
I actually got a few CL offers since I posted this thread, so I just might be ok.
So I've now sold almost all of my books. I threw a yard sale and a dealer dropped by and picked up two boxes for $100.
I did withhold the Initial D though.
If anyone wants it, let me know. Otherwise it's forum time.
too late, but you should just have bought your neighbor's home.![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)

Yeah, I think I'd rather do what they didn't and buy a Kindle.
