I grew up listening to AM radio in the early 70's, but mostly I listened to 77 WABC-AM during that period, listening to Bruce Morrow and Dan Ingram. By the late 70's, I had graduated to FM radio and WNEW-FM out of NYC, with great DJ's like Carol Miller and Pat St. John.
I don't really consider myself a fan of Mr. Imus, but I guess it could be said he was ahead of his time. RIP.
I still listen to AM radio only.
never listened to Imus, but Howard Stern back in the day mentioned him a few times in few tv things I saw . Thus his name stuck in my head
Don was what we'd call an iconoclast these days. I really liked him. I didn't always agree with his views, but agreed that he was definitely speaking from his innate intelligence, not biased opinion ... unlike what we see a lot of today. I first started listening to him in the early nineties on NYC AM radio on the way to work, kind of static-ey back in those days. I liked his guests, especially author Pete Hamill, of whom I've read many of his books as a result. Others at DeHoff (deep hole drilling machine tools, my place of employment at the time), listened and we'd discuss during the workday (as we discussed Seinfeld episodes of the day). Anyway, I thought Imus was an intelligent guy, but more importantly, a generous guy with his ranch. RIP Don. I'll miss you.
I liked him for his unfiltered views on things. I definitely did not agree with him on many things but I respected him.

He sold the ranch for 19 million dollars.
Did not know that. I lost track of him after his comments about those cheerleaders. Never heard him on the radio again after that.
Looks like it went to auction and was sold for 12.5m. Then it sold again to a tv production group or something.
