Not a huge fan of paypal, but it’s how I collected my fantasy foosball winnings.
I made an ebay purchase a few days ago, but couldn’t figure out how to use the “cash” I’d received a few days earlier.
Paypal doesn’t have my bank account info, and I’d rather keep it that way.
Can I just transfer the money to a debit card? (Yes, I realize this is effectively my bank account, but I’d still rather they not have my account & routing numbers)
Unless you relent on giving them some of your info, the best you will be able to do is load up a gift card at your retailer of choice with the balance.
To use the cash on eBay you would just select "PayPal Balance" as the payment method instead of your usual CC.
AFAIK they only do debit card transfers linked to an actual bank account and require you to provide the account numbers anyway.
I've been using PayPal for ~15 years now and never lost any sleep about them having my bank info, but I also buy and sell a lot of things and the ability to move my sales balance from PayPal to my bank in a matter of minutes is pretty nice. They don't have any more info than anyone who's ever received a check from me would...

Hi, I'm Mike. I work for the company that your bank likely depends on IF your bank is any smaller than BOA/Chase/etc.
Before this, I worked in Bank Risk and Fraud.
Link it to your bank account. Paypal is safe. You can unlink it later.

I've thought about getting one of the PayPal debit cards that is linked to the account. I think you can then use it like a debit card against your PayPal balance, but without (or lower?) the transfer fees. Right now, I buy a lot more than I sell using PP, so I haven't really looked into it.
No fees to transfer into a checking account.

FWIW, when I signed up, I gave paypal my bak account information and hooked the account to it but I never verified the account.
I can move money from Paypal into my bank account but not vice versa.
I've never had an issue but hopefully they wouldn't be able to take the funds back out.
I signed up about 15 years ago as well, things may have changed by now.

Paypal is safe only when they don't randomly freeze your account. Always transfer all your cash from paypal asap. I cannot begin to detail the horror stories of working with them as a seller. While your bank info is likely safe from fraud, I would not trust anything to paypal. One of the most unethical companies in existance, flouting the banking regulatory system to abuse customers on a regular basis.
