I would like to get my wife a new TV for Christmas. We have an 8 year old 27" 720p Insignia that is still functional, but I found this 43" 1080p LED LG at Wally World for $268 and was wondering if it was worth a crap. LG is on the short list of brands I trust for TVs.
The only thing I don't care for is that it only has a power button, for external buttons, but most the TVs are going this way so it's not a deal breaker.
This is also an excuse to move the old TV to the bedroom and ditch the CRT TV that's still in there.

You're only two weeks away from the Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend. I'm sure there will have a huge selection of TVs with the some of the lowest prices of the season. Since you mentioned Wallyworld

While I'm fully aware that Black Friday is coming, with work, I don't know if I will be around on Black Friday to assault little old ladies and children just to get a good deal on a TV.
Also this is a surprise and Cyber Monday doesn't allow you to pay cash. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
Specs look pretty reasonable, especially for the price. I'm pretty happy with our LG TV and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.
Korean LG and Samsung TVs seem to be at the top of the ratings lists, along with Japanese Sony and Panasonic TVs. Everything else now is Chinese, even formerly non-Chinese brands like JVC, Toshiba, Sharp, Philips Magnavox and Polaroid, and they receive more mixed reviews. I've had luck with cheap TVs but YMMV.
I have a 55" LG and it's as good as I can ask a tv to be.
Not that I'd suggest avoiding taxes in any way or anything but if you find yourself "visiting" a VA facility their canteen store sells tvs fairly cheaply and free of taxes.

I have a 50 or 55" LG. It's fine. Except the speakers buzz at anything above moderate volume, and the front 'buttons' (flush surface, touch sensitive things) only worked for a few months.
I'm seeing 50" Samsung smart 4k at that price point now as well.

This is absolutely the best site for finding the right TV for your needs. They do four way split screen comparisons of the ones that you are considering. Very helpful. Plus they check prices nationwide ten times per day so you can always find the right deal.

The best prices for items that will actually be in stock are often the weekend before Black Friday.
You'll still have to get to the store early before they sell out but it won't be the complete madness of BFriday.

The best tv deals come the week before the Super Bowl.
Well I ended up with a 43" Vizio. It got much better ratings that the LG and a couple other TVs close in size.
I bought a 49" Vizio last year, very happy with it. You will need HD service if you don't already.

I've had HD cable for 8 years, so I think I'm set. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/crazy-18.png)
I have a 42" vizio that has been excellent even with 3 moves over the last 7 years. It was recently retired to game room service when we upgraded to a 60" 4k for our anniversary.
I suggest an internet capable TV, one that will do internet without outside devices. Several types available. I have a Roku, works great. Cable works on it too. HULU, Youtube and other movie channels are easy access. May cost a bit more but upcoming sales may make them as cheap or cheaper than standard LED/LCD TV. Got my 55" Roku for less than standard TV. As for sound. I've found that most have marginal speaker system and tend to rely on external speakers of some sort. Like surround sound or a sound bar.

The Vizio I picked up is a Smart TV. It's just an extra for me, I've been running all those apps through the Xbox or Cable Box.

I'd actually avoid the Smart TV's the manufacturers don't support them very well so the software on them aren't updated often or at all. A Roku box or another device still makes sense since you can get support for them and if they age out, you can replace it.

Yes, but I was explaining why Smart TVs aren't terribly smart in the long run.
And if you haven't found the joy of the Amazon Fire TV HD stick... ohmygawd
After firing the stick, adding the Kobi app and the Exidus plug in you will literally have the world at your fingertips.
Want to watch FIFA soccer? It's there
Aussie football? Yep
New release movies? Sure
It's all there
