I may need to re-open the case, but I'm not sure if I'll replace the rollers when I do.  When I installed the race, I gave the rollers a good looking over and not a single one had a blemish.  When I put the new race on and spun things, there weren't any vibrations or rough spots.  I do, though, have a set of rollers at home...

But yeah, linkage got jammed up a bit when I put the case back together.  Two times that happened on this trans, and one time it happened on the one I'm using.  For some reason it keeps getting stuck in reverse when I put the aft case on...  No idea why, but not hard at all to split and have another go when I'm home (I want to install the shifter on it and see if it's really stuck in R first.  Might be I just didn't have any leverage to shift properly)

Good times.

sorry guys, Vikki is right.  We have been busting our butts and I have been absolutely slacking on the updates.  This is what's happening:

Up first is what you already know: A drone-pilot friend of ours, named Yaroslav, who doesn't have any military background, was mobilized recently and trained to hit russian armor with drones like you see in all those videos online.

Yaroslav originally asked us for help as he was down to his last pair of trousers and also needed boots. Could we help? Well sure we could! The call went out and before it could be answered, Yaroslav's unit took a strike almost RIGHT where he was sleeping.

I'm sure you remember that everyone survived, but they lost everything in the blast. Escaping in only the shorts and sandals he was wearing at the time, Yaroslav now needed "one of everything."

Again, using only our phones, we were able to find a donor who just so happened to be visiting a friend of hers in Yaro's battalion (the 25th Airborne). We were STOKED when she said she could grab a pair of trousers on the way.  I could have SWORE I posted it on here, but I don't see it on the last page  (in that red bag is an "Individual First Aid Kid" (IFAK) for Yaro as well.)

I know I say there are millions of us out here, but this is looking like it might have been an understatement. How else could our limited contact list get such results so fast??

Ok, so here's what I'm pretty positive you don't know: Well, someone else heard about the strike and contacted us. Does anyone else in his unit need IFAKS? 100% they do! we got requests from 6 people in his battalion and the donor in question sent 10 (yes, TEN) IFAKs to meet the need.

Then we got word that the 24th Convict battalion (known as "The Redeemed") who were feeling a bit left out. A volunteer from the UK reached out to me and asked if we could help get them simple things like water treatment tablets or protein bars?

We certainly can!

Instantly I had an absolute rock star come through via our FB page with donations of both (already received by the UK volunteer as we speak).

In addition, Mrs. Hungary and I each found a $100 gift card we had gotten from our bank that we couldn't use because it wouldn't work overseas. Well, it took a little more logistical coordinating, but today we found someone willing to haul $200 worth of supplies for "The Redeemed" across the ocean and to our front door!

whew!!!! I honestly didn't know how much longer we can keep pulling this off, but then a mom reached out from Kyiv. Could ANYONE get her some cat food? Her son (approx 15 years old) had been in the hospital for cancer treatment and in the running back and forth, she had no food left to feed her cat.  (This is what VikkiDp mentioned about "sad news concerning the cat")

Vikki used our Mother's and Baby's fund, and fired off a rapid response shot in the form of an overnight delivery of cat food. She's a mom, and that's her baby. Exactly what the fund was for

A request came from the 74th Recon. Could anyone help source a couple drone batteries? They're running low!

Not only did we find a donor

but we found out through conversation that this person was supposed to volunteer as a medic in Ukraine but lost their driver. Do we know anyone that needs an extra set of hands? We certainly do! We have a friend of a friend named Natalia and have even donated to her before. She runs a mobile hospital in Kharkiv and would probably LOVE to have some extra muscle around.

I really do LOVE it when a plan comes together.

And then we had some failures that turned into successes. I had some contacts lined up here in Germany to meet with and I spent a fair amount of time detailing the truck to make a good impression

Well, the plans for those meets all fell through when people realized we were serious and started getting cold feet. But even a loss can become a win, because the person who was trying to connect me with the local leadership got so frustrated in the process that he vowed to fill his truck with baby food and diapers and join us on the drive. Our goal will be to deliver them to the maternity hospital, and he reports that already he's had 5 people drop off supplies!!

Dark Monohue (the artist behind the screamin trident) found out how to place that logo on all sorts of merch.

Mrs. Hungary and I? We had been trying our hand at building a website (all paid for by us). Together we're hoping to use both to get more eyes on our little operation. I haven't added the merch yet, but I'm hoping to have it up tomorrow (DniproExpress.com)

Which brings us back to Yaroslav the Drone Pilot, and his situation after the strike. The guy still needs boots, and all this moving things and money around had my bank all sorts of confused. Even though I've been paying all the fees for any cash transfers, they decided they had been charging me too much. To make it right, they deposited $88 in my "Ukraine" account. Now, it's looking like we might have close to enough cash to buy Yaro his boots!!

I think that's it, everyone. There's so much that goes on behind the scenes, and I really don't know how to capture it all so you're able to see it.

Vikki and I are learning that we volunteers can act much faster than gov organizations. We're finding out that we can act as stop-gap solutions until proper fixes can be put in place. I do want to thank you all for being the piece you are in this network. It's only "together" that any of this becomes possible. (And I'm sorry for taking so long to get this update out.  Even now, there's MORE things happening that I need to post about)

Man, it's only work. It's an honor to help in whatever small way I can.

By way of introduction, I set up a store offering all kinds of branded products to help raise funds for Bill's humanitarian aid efforts. The store has all kinds of merch available - t-shirts, hoodies, koozies, that kind of stuff. Coffee cups, Frisbees. Magnets! We would very much appreciate if you would take a look through and see if anything strikes your fancy. All proceeds go to Bill to help fund this operation, though I will likely run most of the store operations unless Bill decides to take it on himself.

This is very much a grassroots endeavor. Art and design work are our own. We have freedom to do custom products just about any way we like, so if there's something you'd like to see made available, just contact me. That applies to any artwork you'd like to contribute, too. There is room here for growth.

Thanks for the airtime!

Everyone, we have a new addition to our family!

I would like you all to meet Bohdan. He's a 12 year old who fled from Zaporizhiya and is now taking shelter in Dnipro. We were just told that he has been pursuing art as a hobby since he was 5 years old!

He sent us photos of some of the art he's been making lately, and honestly I've been so disorganized about my updates on this trip I REALLY wanted to make sure I showed you guys some photos of his work:

From Saturday night:

8/12/24 8:20 a.m.

Alright, so you may have noticed that Yaroslav (our adopted drone pilot)'s fund dropped to zero.  That's because I picked up a pair of boots for him over the weekend.

The funds for these came from two different places.  One was our fundraiser for Yaro that collected $75 in our paypal account (big "thank you" to everyone who donated!). The other was the bank fee refund I received in the amount of $88 to my "Ukraine" account.  I put the funds together and bought the below pair of boots:

There were two problems with the boots that I wanted to tell you about before we got to the good stuff.

The first is they cost $168.  That was really no problem as I could simply add $18 and help contribute to our fund

The second is Yaro is a size 12, and these are a 13.  They simply didn't have his size, and these are going to be a little big.  I figure this will be slightly uncomfortable now, but MILES better than the slip on shoes he's wearing at the moment (especially when the winter months come and he'll be able to double-up or triple-up on socks to stay warm..

One note of interest, I didn't want to mention the destination for these boots as people sometimes get a little sketchy when it comes to sales (there are reports of sellers backing out when uniform item purchases are attempted).  To circumvent such things, I simply pretended they were for me! laugh

It kind of works because Yaro and I are ALMOST the same size.  Guys, I tell you what.  These darn things are very well built.  They're also damn light-weight, probably the lightest boots I think I've ever tried on!  They're going to be perfect for our drone pilot, even if the sizing isn't spot on.

So.  While I didn't get to walk a mile in the shoes of a Ukrainian warfighter, I did get to try them on (and lemme tell ya, those are some BIG boots to fill).

It turned out to be PERFECT for holding his tools!

This one's for Dark Monohue:

There I was.... Driving back to my hotel room from Ramstein air base.  Runnin' late because of a disposition that wasn't closed out before the end of my shift.   Dua Lipa's "Physical" on the radio (don't judge!).  Stuck at a stoplight...

Light turns green and I proceed through.  Two lanes of mine merge into one on my side so I'm not paying super close attention when someone in the opposite lanes starts excitedly blasting their horn.

But I do look.

And when I do, I notice it's a van going nuts (arms out the window, etc).  I'm able to give the \m/ sign back out my window because it was rolled down, but the horn didn't stop.

That's when I noticed the Ukrainian  plates.

Buddy, I know we talked about not flying the "Screamin' Trident" flag on the hood of the truck because of local (Hungarian) politics... But your artwork just made someone's day (and it certainly made mine).

Thank you.

I just got home and found this envelope with some cool post marks and a customs form taped to the back (Yay!) mixed in with the usual mail and bills...let's see what our man in Hungary has done this time!

Cool patches for jackets and air fresheners for the cars! My daughter believes the patch in the upper left says" Good morning, we're in Ukraine" and of course the iconic tractor towing a tank picture on a postcard.  Thanks Bill, I don't know how you do it all.

Everyone, I have a logistics update as well:

Here goes: First was our pet food delivery.

You might remember that a mother was having difficulty getting food for her cats and dogs because she was busy with her son's cancer treatment. Well the food we sent arrived!

The next was two drone batteries that were being sent to the 74th Recon Battalion. One battery arrived over a week ago, and today we got word that the second one showed up as well! (The donor who made that possible is in Kyiv right now for medical training. He'll be heading to Kharkiv soon).

And then we stumbled upon a mother's plea for help in one of the groups and knew we had to do something.

We still had a little of Vikki's "Mothers and Babies" fund left over, so Vikki set about shopping locally and organizing delivery. It's not going to set her up for life, but we thought maybe it will let her breathe easy tonight.

Still on the move are 6ea IFAKS for Yaroslav's battalion (the 25th airborne), 3ea shipments of protein bars and water treatment tablets for the 24th Convict Battalion (The Redeemed), and we have a potential meeting lined up with some important people here on base this Friday (fingers crossed!)

man...  Whatever else you do today.  I hope you guys know you've taken a lot of weight off of a lot of shoulders and chests.
