I think I'm improving. I'm starting to not take anyone out when they overtake me!

Who were the two guys that gave me the Malachi Crunch around turns 2 and 4 at about the halfway point?

Heading down to the esses? Or going into the two tight right handers onto the long straight? I know what mutant and griffin tangled with someone at the later. I wasn't aware of a major incident at the top of the hill before the esses. Unfortunately, I also forgot to save the replay again, so no chance to go back and take a look.

Also, sorry again for forgetting to adjust the end-of-race timer. Please note that we usually have it set at 10 minutes to try to give everybody a chance to finish the race.

Yea, at the esses. Around lap 10. Two black cars with no livery, i think. Each passed on both sides. Remembered because my mph topped out @ 88 after that, I missed pit road next time around and thought it was ironic that I was pitting on a lap we were originally supposed to pit. Used your setup, thanks Lainford Express. Was actually getting the hang of trail braking in 1, 6 and 7.

I was having ALOT of problems in 3 and 5 finding good braking points. Anybody have any tips for these turns for future reference? Other than that, just being over cautious trying to get a feel. May be able to shift on my own by next week.

I don't know who gotcha at the top of the hill; I do know that going into turn 6, at some point, I got by you on the right and in my rearview you were suddenly sideways from when mutant tagged you.

For turn 3 I start braking right after the apex of 2. Turn 5 for me is right after the beginning of the curbing for the right turn of the short course.

The two black cars with no livery is odd, did they look like Jettas? Even that doesn't make sense because none of the eligible cars are DLC. I think it was griffin's green/blue/yellow RSX and mutant's lime-green '99 Si that you tangled with (more with mutant).

Would disc 2 cars show up that way if you don't have disc 2 installed?

Good point. just remembered disc 2 is not in. couldn't install due to limited internal memory, however external mem is in now. thanks for reminding me!

It's ok dude, I've done that by accident a couple of times myself, that braking point is pretty easy to blow. I'm dicing for last, not first, so no harm no foul.

Are you using the in-car view, or the highest 3rd person view? There are plenty of good braking points you can see in 3rd person, but not in-car.

Question #1) Does using full manual shifting really make that big of a difference? What are people's controller setups for that?

Question #2) All I did was DL Lainford's tune for the ITR, loaded it, and drove the car. Are people making other tuning adjustments like tire psi, race differential settings, anti-roll bar stiffness, etc?

I think that's all my questions for now.

Third person view is also key. Got it. I guess I'll have to get used to that.

hi phaze, sorry for hitting you in the bumper going into the backside of the course-that was all my fault, you held your line and i misjudged the corner`s distance...

also- i drive in hood view and like that the best...i use the 3rd stripe on the road when braking for 5...also-learn to use the clutch-it is a must!...i use controller setting1(default) and use my index finger for the clutch(LB) and passing(middle) finger for the brake....lol

I use the setting 1, but I have clutch and hand brake switched. For me it is easier to hit 2 buttons with my thumb than to get the timing down between left index and right thumb. Also since I use my index finger on the trigger for braking, braking and downshifting at the same time is easier.

As far as setups go, I've got my tires set to around 32psi hot, final drive ratio tuned to be near redline at the end of the longest straight, I fiddle with sway bars balancing between feel and lap times, and the diff is set between 25% and 34% on most of my FWD cars. That pretty much covers what we can do in this series.

Oh, man...I missed it! My mistake. It was the CMC that was postponed! Eh, SWMBO was playing her new game anyway. Girl needs a day off every once in awhile.

Also, keep the tips coming. I'm kinda proud that I'm running mid-pack everywhere using cockpit view & no clutch, but curious about what I could do if I started treating it like a videogame..

Aside to griffin: Yeah, I'm going to try that with the controller. My hands just kind of give up after 25min of trying to use two fingers to shift. Just popping them both with the thumb may be just what the doctor (almost literally!) ordered. What kind of engine damage does that do? (I don't check damage during races due to the same hand pain/tremors thing)

racerfink
racerfink SuperDork
10/11/12 10:22 p.m.

It doesn't do any damage if you can hit them at the same time.

The 3rd person view is a WHOLE lot closer to what I see when I'm racing in real life compared to cockpit view. Cockpit view in most racing games makes it feel like I'm three inches off the ground.

Okay, I guess I'm ready to try the clutch. Just one more question..do you do it when downshifting as well?

I probably won't play with view until I get used to the clutch..

Well now I know why I get walked coming out of corners! That's quite a difference between the different shifting methods.

Thanks Griffin for the tuning tips and secrets. I didn't even realize that I could tune my final drive ratio! That (among other things) would explain why everyone ahead of me seemed like they ran away and hid lol.

I've updated the 02 RSX, change race intake to sport. First page build updated as well as storefront tune.

Hey all, I'd like to join in if possible for this Tuesday. Gamertag "SHODOGG S4", #442 Honda Prelude. I have a question, though: Do you have to download the setup from the marketplace or can you add the mods from page 1 yourself and run the car that way? I tried downloading the setup but then you can't change things like tire pressures, etc. (which I saw some discussion about on page 2) since the tune is "locked" unless I'm missing something..?

The cars in the club garage are just in case someone wants in and doesn't have a car. You can build your own from page one, and tune as much as you want. Good luck!

Nah, he's talking about the cars that are in Lainfords storefront. They're locked, cause usually, you're selling to people you don't know. And you don't want them being able to see what your tune is so that they can turn around and put that same exact tune on their storefront and make money from something they didn't work on themselves.

You can tune the cars on the parts that are tunable. But to do that, you have to "remove" the parts, then re-install them. If it's a brand new car in your garage, that's easy to do. But if it's a car you already have in your garage, and you've bought any parts at all for it, then you have to figure out which are the parts you need to re-install, and which ones you don't. Much easier to take that car in your garage, take it back to stock, and then install the parts you need.
