Saw GWAR the other night--sadly without JG, my GWAR buddy, but he already had tickets to see Skinny Puppy. Anyway, Blothar carries the torch. Is he Brockie? No, no one will ever fill those shoes. Still, it was a fun show. Lots of blood, guts, loud music and more blood.
Corrosion of Conformity played before GWAR. Haven't seen them since my college days, and they're just as brutal.
The big surprise was American Sharks, the first band up. Wow. They're a three-piece stoner metal outfit out of Austin. Tight, fast, fun and with a bit of modesty, too. Plus their video pays homage to the best movie ever, Repo Man: http://youtu.be/w0wMuA0J3eQ
I thought they had a new lead, Vulvatron or something..
Technically they now have two lead singers, Blothar and Vulvatron. You can see them in action here: http://www.avclub.com/video/gwar-covers-pet-shop-boys-211000
And Blothar isn't exactly new to GWAR: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Bishop_(bassist)
Glad they're still at it. GWAR has been on my one of these days list for a long time. I should check for Dallas date.
Sharks sound cool, will spend some more time checking them out tomorrow.
I was playing CoC at work the other day and the crowd was under the impression they were all dead. Not so I said. I've got a cool CoC flyer from 80 something I need to dig out. Been meaning to get them all scanned into digits. Might have to start a thread.
The wife and I saw them when they passed through Detroit 2 weeks ago. It was a great show.
I made sure to snag an American Sharks cd. Those guys rocked. Very impressive.
I grabbed an American Sharks CD, too: nine songs, 20 minutes.

Just saw them this past weekend in Atlanta. Just this morning I discovered I still had fake blood in my ears. MOST EXCELLENT.

berkeleying brilliant. <3
Also digging the idea that GWAR will never berkeleying die; just keep passing the torch. How rad would it be if they were still around 50 years from now? And who else could get away with that?
GWAR is an institution here in RVA. If they opened the doors to new talent to keep the band going I'm sure there would be plenty of volunteers.
Btw - Digging American Sharks!
American Sharks - Overdrive

I'm cornfused. You think people will still see the stones without Jagger and Richards, or you think neither of them will ever die?

I think they are already preserved and will live forever. Can anything kill Keith Richards?
COC is one of my favorite bands of all time. They are getting Pepper Keenan back for the next album, and with the direction they have been going on the last two, it is going to rule!!!
I sadly have never seen them live, and I've been a fan for more than half of my 32 years.

Saw them open for Metallica in 96.. they kicked ass, and didn't get lost on that huge stage that filled up most of the arena floor. They definitey held their own..

I actually talked to Dave Brockie about that exact scenario probably 15 years ago, and he was really excited about the fact that their band could potentially be immortal. I'm glad they didn't hang it up after he died, especially since I'm 100% convinced that DB would be super-pissed if they did.
Yeah. One of the things he mentioned off air when we were doing the podcast was that his vision of the band was really more like Cirque du Soleil than an actual band. That it evolved around the mythology rather than the personnel. He saw it as very perpetual, which I think would be amazing.
