I'm looking into using a tarp as a temporary roof for my shed -just over the winter probably. Pros? Cons? Any caveats?

thanks.

The cheap, Harbor Freight ones will wear out over time.

I used a thick one that was blue on one side and silver on the other with rubber grommets to cover some stuff over the winter. It was better quality (Costco) and looked new after a year.

Get a good quality and you will be fine.

Likely to flap a lot in the wind but otherwise, most anywhere that has a hurricane has blue tarp roofs for many months until the roofing contractors can get to them all.

Tack it down well.

What do you have in the shed? I'd be worried about snow. How hard would it be to construct a quick ply-wood A frame, then put the tarp over that?

Have lots of old tires to hold it down.

Buy good quality, support it underneath, use good tie downs.

Are you covering a leaky roof, or have no roof at all? How big is the shed? Construction?

Gambrel roof. ~12'X 12'

Only roof trusses at this point.

I was going to just pull the whole thing down and start over in the Spring, but now I'm thinking to just cover it (with a tarp) and keep some bikes, two old Barbie Jeeps, the mower and some other odds and ends in there -keeping them out of the garage.

Good tarp, pulled tight to prevent flapping, positioned so water doesn't walk under the edges. Can last for years.
