Dead at 65. Pneumonia.
Loved his performance of Doc Holliday
And many other roles. He and Dennis Quaid both dominated their respective versions of the Tombstone story, Doc was such an interesting character.
Bummer, it seemed like just yesterday that I was watching Willow with my kids on a rented VHS player from the arcade.

Same for me. Also loved his character in Real Genius. I'm not one to usually care about celebrities. But he seemed like a good one. RIP Doc.
"I'm your huckleberry. Say when"
Damn, he was one of my favorites. Just about everything he was in, he took his character to the limit, fully absorbing himself in the role. My introduction to him as a kid was Willow, where he played the rogue Madmartigan. He chewed up every scene he was in, and was perfect for the role. That movie probably stayed in our VCR for 6 months!
There was a documentary that he made about his life a few years back that's worth checking out. And if you haven't seen Top Gun: Maverick, his role in the movie serves as a pretty great farewell to a great actor. RIP.
Top Secret, Real Genius, Top Gun, Tombstone, The Doors, the list goes on. Absolutely iconic actor, and should have been nominated for Tombstone.
Also the voice of Mustang KITT in the 2008 Knight Rider reboot.
Dude could just do anything on screen and make it compelling. Action, drama, romantic lead, exceptional comic chops. Apparently he could be a real pain in the butt to work with at times, but the brilliant ones frequently are.
I guess the biggest tribute is I can't figure out which film to pop in in remembrance. Maybe Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, where everyone on scren seemed to be having the most fun of their lives.
my goto Val Kilmer Movie was "the saint" which in the movie was a bit like a James Bond knockoff but still great...

It was very good. He was a complex person.
My friend sold him a convertible 1968 GTO in Santa Fe New Mexico. He used to use it as a daily driver when he was in town.
I know that they are going to ramp up filming Heat 2 soon. I think he was going to have some sort of role or appearance in it. He did so many good movies.
Val Kilmer was you youngest student to be accepted at the Juilliard School with fellow actors like Kevin Bacon, Sean Penn, and his future co-star Kelly McGillis - pretty crazy
If you haven't watched this yet, it is really good
One of my favorite lines from him:
"In the immortal words of Socrates, I drank what?"
RIP "Neek"
(I never realized Top Secret was his first film!)
In reply to OjaiM5 :
Was it light blue with a darker blue top? Rallye wheels?
There's a picture of Mr. Kilmer standing in front of it floating around FB.
I didn't know Top Secret was his first big movie either. I also didn't realize he was only 5 years older than I am.

Salton Sea is one of my favorites of his movies, but there are many. Just watched Heat. He didn't 'star', but a strong role well played.
Top Secret was one of the funniest movies of all time.
He performed all his own songs in it as well.
