Just need to vent.

The cage for my race car should have been done by now. As a matter of fact the deadline was May 1st. What is the friggen hold up? You didn't order the metal until last thursday. You had it on friday. Not a single piece of tube bent, and the car has been stripped since early april. You had me order taco gussets from a third party. Now you are implying you haven't been able to do anything because the gussets aren't here yet.....really? You need the gussets before you bend even one tube? No chance for my tech inspection this weekend so I can get logged. Missing(driving) this weekends event. Looks like next weekends event is in jeapordy. Hey, series points are overated anyway. I don't care if you do one bend and one weld a day, just get started already. Nightmare. There I feel a little better.

Long story short "sold" an Audi to this guy over 3 years ago...then he gets hit with divorce, hard times yadda yadda. I say no problem, pay me when you can. Finally suggest building a cage to settle his debt to me. He's very talented in this area. $500 in metal plus his time and his debt is paid. He jumped at the chance. Audi was $5k. I figure he'd charge $3.5k for this. So I think this is a pretty generous deal. I've cut this guy way too much slack, and I'm a sucker for doing it. I suppose I wouldn't care if I saw him do at least a little work on it on occasion.

Sorry. Feel free to vent your motorsports frustration here.

Now we know why she divorced him....

The thing that really infuriates me is that there is a very talented young cage builder in the area. He could have done it, and I've seen his work to know he'd do a good job. He would have been done by now. As a matter a fact I've seen several cages be finished at his shop in the time I've had mine at the other. If I had the money from the audi I would have just brought it to the other guy....and I'd be racing it this weekend. Can't even drive it out of the shop at this point.

Did you give the guy a clear title without a lien on it?

It's not being grumpy. It's being reasonable. Have you really put the pressure on him??? Might be time to cut your losses. Pick up the car that's getting the cage, spend an afternoon in court to get a judgement on the Audi.

This.

You have been more than pleasant about this. Get your stuff, cut ties and go. There are decent peaple in this world who always seem to have issues. And it becuase they ignore the detail in their life and refuse to acknowledge any fault.

Its like the guy that always dates psychos. He doesn't do anything wrong, but after the third nutcase relationship, there is only one common element.

I am sure he is a nice guy. But you have the "oh hey I need a car" then the "Oh hey I am getting divorced and need a break.." "Oh hey, I haven't had a chance to bend a tube."

He is probably not trying to screw you over deliberately, but the same apprach to everything in his life yeilds this kinds of hopeless situations, where he didn't do anything to cause it, but he didn't do anything to fix it as it started.

Now, through no direct action of your own, you are out a car and out a race cage. You can continue allow his lack of action to impact you, and through a lack of action on your part find yourself in a depserate situation that you didn't cause...

...or just rip off the band aid.

Since writing this post I've actually went to his shop(45 minutes away). He swears up and down it'll be done for my event next weekend. I was pretty clear about my expectations, and my generousity thus far. We shall see.

I have found that when they swear up and down, that you end up right back where you started. YMMV.

Good luck dude! You've been way more paitent than most.

IMO, if your car isn't ready by next weekend, I'd take legal action and get the other car payed for. Right now, you're out 2 cars, when you should have one car with a cage.

You'll need to log in to post.
