GT5 Prologue is far ahead of these two in terms of accurate drift physics out-of-the-box, but you'll need a PS3 to experience it.
Yep. It's quite fun and realistic. Just remember, don't go chasing after those 90* drifts like you see in Need For Speed Underground. Keep your eyes up and on the track. Also, a wheel is preferrable to a joystick since there is far too much temptation to slam the stick completely in the opposite direction (further induce the skid) when trying to impose MINOR corrections in your attitude or course.
May I recommend the Sprinter Trueno GT Apex? With some power (just a bit), tires, and a super-aggressive suspension setup, this car (or any for that matter) should do just fine.
Yep its possible I do it in Forza 2 all the time. Some cars do it great just naturally others you have to tweak them a bit to get things just right. Sometimes its as simple as changing tire pressures a bit.
Forza 2 is awesome for it, although I prefer competitive racing online, there are a lot of people who tandem drift on there as well.
Yeah... I try drifting in Live for Speed... and hit the wall every time.

In GT4 may I recommend a shelby cobra with sports softs.. (change nothing else but maybe the transmission so you dont run out of gear)

look around g25s are pretty cool, or you can get some custom setups. I have the G25, but still rock the Logitech Gran Turismo 4 wheel a lot.
I say, yeah it's fun . . .but it's not realistic . . . It can have doses of realism, and yes a good driving simulator will allow you to apply real life techniques to initiation and follow through with the game.

Make sure you read the description closely and watch the video. You can do things like turn in, let go of the wheel and throttle steer but without actually being in a car you can't say it's realistic because natural forces play alot into what driving actually is and how you react to everything around you.
Also . . .you don't just bounce off of walls in real life.
