Saw a few Elan back in the day in our Lotus club meetings. Never saw a KDM one here.
I was always intrigued by the Elan (I remember a Sport Compact Car article about Kia's adoption of it). I'm afraid this one will exceed what I would consider a reasonable sale price. I'll be watching just in case, though.
A shop I used to take my car to always had one out back or in the shop (normal Lotus-branded model). I don't know what the reliability is normally like on these, but I think I only saw that one outside of the shop once...

As a long time Lotus owner (3 Espirit, 1 Exige, 1 Elise), they are all hit or miss. If your car was built on a certain day, you can expect a lot of problems. I have had very good luck with 3/5. Other 2 were utter lemons.
Man, that is cool. I've always loved that generation of Elan; despite the FWD nature, they were well marketed to teenage me via video games.
I had no idea the Elan was continued by Kia after Lotus was done with it. That's super cool, I always love finding out about obscure cars I didn't know existed.
