I need more toys like a hole in the head...

Hey, several of us are building model Railroads. You know you like trains. Come on, they're not expensive. (Lololololo)
This reminds me, I have a "desert buggy" sitting in a box in the garage. I bent an axle the first time I ever ran it by jumping a curb in the parking lot of my apartment. It still drove but with a wobbly wheel. I never bothered to run it again, but it could be converted to a truck with some different body mounts and bumpers, I might have to dig it out and get some parts for it...then again it would be better with some nicer electronics and brushless motor...and lipo batteries...damn I'm starting to remember how expensive this could get and why I didn't get more invested in it.
Yes. Reading up on RC10 history, looks like it's an early "Cadillac" RC10, definitely before 1990 and the Stealth transmission. Oddly, the manual is copyrighted 1984.
Did the check get there yet?

Ill need to ask the mailroom (wife and munchkin)
Did you dig the extra body and parts i found to go with it? Didn't even suspect they still existed until we were cleaning the top of the closet in the living room.
Then I shouldn't look in my rc box in storage... I still have a losi xx, rc10lso, trinity revolver.... plus tons of various nascar and nascar truck bodies...

Please stop.
Several years ago, I got this box down. I had stumbled across a nearly complete chassis and unpainted body on eBay somehow and recalled how mine got parked after several blown differentials while I was a teenager. With the auction still up, I got the old car out and was reminded that I robbed the controller and servos to build a gas truck(RC10GT) right before I got a driver's license. Coincidentally, that is about as long as the gas truck stayed around, but this car is still here....first hobby grade kit I ever bought and assembled.
I bought that eBay chassis w/body(and a good differential!), and a cheap controller with servos. With everything in front of me, I spent a weekend mixing and matching parts to get the old car together, drove it up and down the driveway a couple times, then put it right back on the shelf because my thoughts went immediately to what upgrades I should do, etc etc, and I didn't have time/money for another hobby, again.
I knew where things were headed then and I know where they would go now, so it is only down for these pictures, but I suppose I should be thankful for this thread. I found batteries dated from 2009 in the controller! Pretty sure I got to them before any corrosion damaged things.
You people are a terrible influence. This thread caused me to unpack my old Tamiya Blackfoot and Grasshopper. They had a couple of broken bits so now those bits are on order along with some new batteries.

There are a bunch of hop-ups and conversion parts highlighted by 12yo me in this manual. The truck conversion was definitely on my list!

$2,000? You're not going to get very far. Real cars might be cheaper at this point.
1/10 scale, so 1/10 the budget. How fast could we go for $200? It would be awesome to see what we could scrounge up.
I had a Dahm's Bugsy on my Raider. Florescent yellow over purple with "drips" because of course I did. It was 1992. (Not my car, same body, though)

I looked on eBay to FMV my Raider Pro and its parts car....I'm already over budget.

It would definitely be a challenge, no pun needed, to make a $200 set up work. We cant use the typical Challenge format of old car with upgrades. Old RC is hot right now. Old hop ups aren't far behind. You'd have to find something just out of being top of the line, but not old enough to be vintage. FMV would be a bitch with what Ebay asks.
You could roll the dice on Chinesium electronics. But you might get a crap LiPo that burns your house to the ground.
We might be on to something here, though.
What about a smaller scale? I loved running 1/18 stuff, and it was a whole ton cheaper way back in the day. I just took a look on the E of Bays, and they have entry-level hobby grade stuff for low enough prices you could do a decent build for $200.

Until the engine swap, my junker truck was under 200$. Oooooold vxl setup. Woody has the motor now.

I have an 18mt I could run in exhibition....idk what exactly the motor/esc combo is these days, but I know it can do backflips.
I loved my RC18T, but they didnt have a gear cover-FOR A TRUCK BUILT FOR DIRT! After 6 lunched spur gears, I parked it. Still have my Mini-T though.
