Everybody is entitled to an opinion. "Yours" isn't right for everyone, no matter which side you're on. If folks on both sides of these squabbles kept that in mind, we'd all get along better.
My favorite threads are well organized and make points. This one isn't among my favorites.

You guys are missing a key part of this Obama-GE romance. Why do you think Obama is pushing electric cars and wind turbines? GE makes them. Just after Obama took over GM, he killed their fuel cell development. Why? He wants to push electric, which arguably not ready. Immelt single handedly drove GE into the ground, and his punishment for that is to head up the Council on Jobs and Competitiveness? Open your eyes, people. This isn't about you, and it isn't about me. Its about money.

My father retired from Generous Electric after 40+ years as a glass blower at Knolls Atomic Power Lab, R&E Dept.
My brother has worked at the main plant in Schenectady for about 35 years, bought a house, raised two girls, put them through college.
You're entitled to your opinion; mine is that GE put bread on the table many people since Edison and Steimetz' time. You can't do that making junk.

The irony (that contributed to the thread derailing) is that the company's stock values have dropped over 50% since current CEO Immelt took over in 2001. Just yesterday, Mr. Immelt was announced as head of a Presidential panel focusing on job creation - a task he hasn't mastered with his own company.
Immelt's appointment also smells of a political pay-off as he is a staunch supporter of and financial contributor to the current Administration. Then there is the perceived pro-Administration bias from the (GE-owned) NBC media outlets and the questionable ethics of having a CEO directly influencing policies that (can) benefit his company.
The issue isn't about what GE has accomplished in the past, it's about what's occurring now and how/why it's happening.
When Prez Clinton came to town(Champaign, IL) Air Force One went off the end of the runway & got stuck in the mud. I lolz'd
I was a couple hundred feet under Bush41 when he flew into Dobbins (Marietta, GA). Unfortunately, I was inside the building and could only hear Air Force One when it was landing; the runway was less than a quarter-mile from where I was working.
Air traffic was usually pretty active but almost non-existent that day. Even traffic on Hwy 19/41 was disrupted for a while. I do remember the sound of the fighters flying over just a few seconds before AF One came over on its' approach.
That was a fun place to work!
Having anyone from the administration come to town is a royal PITA. The VP has been to town to stay on Kiawah Island. He flies in at rush hour and they close the main beltway around Charleston. The last time he was here it took me over an hour to make the 15 minuet trip home. The last Bush did it too. How about a little consideration to those of us that make it possible for them to stay at the $400 a night hotels. They give them a damn helicopter for a reason, use it and stop screwing up traffic.

I don't want to get into a political debate as this thread is about to shut down, but the selection of Immelt validates the last vote I cast.

yeah when the O came to WNC to visit Billy Graham traffic was shut down for a long time... thankfully I've lived here since 1955 and can get most anywhere without using the main east-west hwys...

Amen. The first couples visit played havoc on our schedules as I am with the county schools transportation dept. with all the roads shut down and the school buses having to make runs on specific roads we had a real monkey on our backs both days the first couple was traveling into/out of Asheville not to mention their little jaunts around the area where streets were indescriminatly shut down for hours on end irregaurdless of the fact that the community needed to operate. We managed but I wonder do they shut down the interstates in Washington or New York or LA when the President is traveling into or out of a bigger city?
