So my rental car this week is a VW Tiguan. It took me 15 minutes to figure out how to control the dash LCD screen to pair my iPhone. (owner's manual not available) My average for other cars is about 10 seconds.
I am assuming it has the base engine because it takes about 5-7 seconds between when I stomp on the gas and something to happen. Turbo Lag? Something not connected? Am I towing a large boat? I still prefer it over the base Lumina that was the alternative choice, but I expected better.

...wait wait wait, where can I go rent a Lumina?
and does it come with mandatory paint delamination?
Those have pretty bad drive by wire throttle response. A flash usually takes the throttle lag away.

That looks like what happens to matchbox cars when you store them all in one big box.

It's also called "Neon Pattern Baldness" because it usually starts on the leading edge of the roof.
There is no base engine. It's the Turbo 2-liter only.

hmmm, i would argue that the turbo 2-liter is the base engine, and there is no optional engine.
In reply to AngryCorvair:
I would be forced to agree with you.

2.0t is the only engine right now. I have a 2010 Tiguan 4 motion and love it. We bought it to replace a Ridgeline and have no complaints(didn't need a second truck). TDI is rumored to be coming, but we'll see. The 2.0t has plenty of power for a suv of this size, it isn't the least bit sluggish and I've driven other cars with alot more lag.
