DW and I have been walking 45-60 minutes per day, 1.25-2 miles, about 5 days a week since May or so.

It never occurred to either of us (well, not me, anyway) to do anything more detailed than check steps on the phone or measure some of the route distances on Google Maps.

Duh.  Time to start.

Can the Hive please recommend a good walk tracking app?  We are not runners or bikers and never will be. Thanks!

Not looking at an external thing, like a fitbit, are you?

I have been happy with AllTrails.  Works good in areas with no cell service.  Some of the other apps I tried seemed to need cell to supplement the GPS.  It also helps find trails/paths in your area.

If you have an iPhone, I find the health app that comes with the phone is quite good.

Not really. Prefer it to be on my phone.

I'm looking for something a little more detailed, especially with routing records or suggestions.

@ logdog- Thanks!  I'll check it out.

Strava would work.  The free account will give you maps, some social media aspects that can be completely avoided (see what friends have been up to, basically), total distance covered by month and year.  Pretty well honed app on Android & iOS.  I don't know if it gives suggested routes, though.

Nike had some app that was supposed to be pretty good and probably includes suggested routes.  I've not used it myself.

I used Strava for my lunch walks when I was working in an office.  Not sure about walking route suggestions.

Samsung Health works nicely. It's not Samsung phone exclusive. Works with their trackers, or just the sensors on your phone. Connects to other services if you like. Has a nice feature to allow you to take a selfie and overlay stats from the walk, so you care share or just archive it - you can see yourself getting skinny/old over time and share to social if that's your jam. Workout GPS tracks. Nice competitive features so you can step challenge others, or participate in a monthly challenge against the whole of Samsung Health. Also benchmarks your activity level against other Samsung Health users with similar demo - i.e. how active are you when compared to other 40-year-old men? Can track other stuff if you want - sleep, food, weight, BP, caffeine, stress, mood - take it as far as you like.

It's what I use also, no tracking but I've driven a walked course to see how accurate and it really has been which surprised me for some reason.

Was coming in to post this. After playing around with most of the health tracking apps on Android, I've settled on Samsung Health. Best breadth of features, it plays well with my Galaxy Watch (go figure), etc. Only downside is that it has ads, but those have never bothered me very much.

Another Samsung Health user here. I've been using it to map bike rides, and it's great. I also have a Samsung Galaxy Watch, and that works great for tracking as well. I like all the stats it gives you when you finish your walk/run/ride. Here's an example of a recent ride I did:

There's more stuff if you dig into it as well.

How often does it ping your GPS location ?

Lets say you only had a 20x20ft yard and you walked around it  for 30 minutes ,

Yes you would be bored , but will the GPS think you are moving or  standing at the same place for 30 minutes ?

I guess if you were doing laps at a High School track it would be large enough to have more than one GPS point ,

Just wondering :)

In reply to californiamilleghia :

Dunno, but my yard is 80x100 with a house in the middle, and my iPhone tells me I walk about 1.3 miles every time I mow it.

Well, fitness trackers count steps, too, so even if you literally stood in one place stepping, it would track that as exercise.
