My buddy invests in watches. He swears they appreciate faster than any other asset and they are easy to get cheap because people just want to offload them and $1000 for a watch is nuts, even if that watch originally sold for $20k.

I just wonder if eventually nobdoy will have any interest in spending that kind of money on a watch. I don't know many kids aspiring to own a Rolex.

Where is this great place to buy nice watches for a small percentage of when they were new?  I'd like to just get one.  Really, I'd like to get a TAG Monaco where the price is so much lower than new.

Just to clarify (again): I was never shopping for a Rolex. I was just wondering how the values play out with the lower end watches.

Try Watchmaxx . They have a website and also sell on eBay.

As I understand it, they are not authorized dealers but are essentially gray market importers. I've read the reviews. They sell new, genuine watches below MSRP, but the warranty goes through them instead of the manufacturer.

The only real complaint that I've seen is that sometimes the date of manufacture was a few years ago, instead of a few months ago.

Even among the negative reviews that I found, no one seemed to be saying that they sold anything but authentic watches.

I bought a new watch from them at a substantial discount and was very happy with every part of the transaction.

Relative to manufacture date, the TAG we would be looking for hasn't been in real production for a couple of years now- they are making derivatives of that design now.  So that works well.

So looking it up, the price is ok... but not amazing.  It's still $5500 for a $6500 watch.

Try Jomashop for grey market stuff.

I have a Monaco x Gulf, it's tied with my Tudor Sub for all time favourite. Mostly because the Sub was my father's watch.

I have a serious want for an MB&F Horological Machine No 5 but I lack the 50k+ required to put my hands on one:
