I wear aprons in the shop.  They have handy pockets and keep me cleaner than I otherwise would be and I like the 1940's era machinist look.

After destroying most of the simple black cotton ones I can find locally I bought a nice handmade waxed canvas one. It is like wearing a piece of sheet metal.  It sounds like a drum when metal chips hit it in the machine shop and is uncomfortable.  I have run it through the laundry a few dozen times. Fresh out of the dryer it is perfect but as soon as it cools it can stand up on its own again.

I am about to resort to solvents to break down the wax. Which ones?

Mineral spirits? Wax and grease remover from the body shop? Another trip through the laundry with simple green? Dawn dish soap?

I've heard vegetable oil works to dissolve wax

Throw a few tennis balls in the dryer with it for the next few washes too, that will help
