Sadly, not a lot of guys from that era remain.

From his Facebook:

Today at 4am, Wayne Shorter peacefully continued on his immense journey into the unknown. He was surrounded by loving family. In his words, “It’s time to go get a new body and come back to continue the mission.” Nam Myoho Renge Kyo.

One of my favorite sax players and a member of my favorite band "Weather Report" which invented Fusion Jazz music. I saw them 3 times in Minneapolis back in the early 70s. A 1000 mile trip each time. RIP

Something I didn't know is he played the sax solo on the Steely Dan song "Aja".

funny thing is that most of the Jazz fusion musicians played with Miles Davis the Jazz Trumpeter earlier in their career. I was never a fan of Miles although my little brother the Jazz drumist from Boulder CO loved him and always practiced along to him with headphones. The only thing our household heard was him pounding on the drums.

YouTube live concerts are low quality and I can't take the ads every 5 minutes so we are playing a tribute wake night with good old lossless CDs.

After trying to job my foggy memory, I think that we drove to 5 of Weather Report's concerts in Minni in the 70's. laugh So, according to my calculator, it was a 1,050 mile round trip and at 55mph comes out to 19 hours of driving time. Times 5 concerts, 95.5 hours, or 4 days of driving. What a fan. yeslaugh
