Oh berkeley, I've done it now.
French vanilla? That's for amateurs. You gotta get the whole bean vanilla with the little flecks of vanilla beans in it. That'll make french vanilla look like training wheels on a Huffy compared to a Ducati 999.

Well shoot. You make a good point.
Homemade chocolate pecan pie with (also homemade) vanilla ice cream with all those flecks in it. That's right, I got flecks.
Pie is just a lame excuse to eat filling!!!!
I haven't had rhubarb pie is a long while, I would like to try some again.... sigh....
Rhubarb-now that's how a pie should be. Sweet pies with ice cream are like putting icing on candy. Poor excuse to get a sugar fix. Pie should be exciting with ice cream to compliment the flavor.

What? Rhubarb is poisonous if not cooked enough and it doesn't taste like anything, so you have to put it together with something that actually has a flavor.
Tell me again why I would bother eating it?
^ My father has the exact same arguement about pasta. He won't eat it, because you have to put stuff on it to make it taste good. I used to eat raw rhubarb as a kid, dip it in a little sugar and go to town. That may explain a lot.......
Rhubarb leaves are poisonous and the stems, which is what you actually eat, have a very strong flavor with an awesome bite, I love rhubarb, for those that do, try rhubarb and apple for a little more bite.
You guys are leaving out the all important cobbler out of the discussion. Cobbler deserves a seat at the table!
No pie for me nor cobbler either.
Ice cream isn't bad but I don't want that neither.
Give me a steak and make it rare.
When dessert time comes around, plop that steak right down there.
Sorry, My English teacher hated me too.
In reply to HiTempguy:
You can buy more pie with your tax cuts. Or, as others have pointed out, cobbler.
In terms of Ice Cream, there are two small family owned joints that I can't pass without stopping at.
Kurver Kreme in Albany, NY and The Whippi-Dip, in Fairlee, VT. Both are using fresh heavy cream to make their product, and can (and do) run out before closing time.
We have a place in Denver that makes their own ice cream right at the store. It's really good. They're always busy, even when it's below zero outside.

Grandma makes home made doughnuts, and home made cinnamon rolls, and home made pies, and home made cookies, and home made ice cream. I love grandma!
There is a bakery in town that does fresh doughnuts, then glazes them, and when you pick them up, they dip one side in chocolate icing. They are the best doughnuts in the world.
I've been to Krisy Kreme. You, sir, are no Krispy Kreme.

Someone mentioned cobbler earlier. I'm pretty sure cobbler is just a fruit pie that had been dropped.

Is Rhubarb and east / south or central thing? I don't think I have ever seen it in a restaurant /bakery in California.
