I see rebar sticking out the tops of those columns. Was that started and abandoned before construction was completed?
I mean I see that it it a bare skeleton, but there are reasons they might have demoed the skin off it before imploding the concrete structure.

Sorry I should have given a little history. This was a sister condo building to the one you can see in the far right of the frame. During construction about 15 years ago the parking deck collapsed killing I think one worker. The building has sat since then but was bought around two years ago by a developer. They were going to finish it. Then they found problems with it's construction. So they started to take it down in a traditional demolition but ran into safety issues a few months back. The city stepped in and paid for the explosive demo and will place a lien on the property.
Always a good time. We gathered for an early Sunday morning demolition of the Riverfront Stadium used by the Bengals and Reds for many years. Powerful to see a structure that size evaporate before your eyes
Very cool.
I happened to get stopped on the Ravenel Bridge when they were blasting part of the adjacent Grace Memorial Bridge in 2005.
It wasn't as graceful as yours but still impressive.
After meeting Stampie and Lil' Stampie at Amelia on Saturday, I too was almost afraid to open the thread.

What you trying to say? After meeting us you think we're a train wreck waiting to happen? Lol. Nice meeting you Saturday also even if you made us chase you all thru the Concourse de Lemons.

I like that 5 bells of the 10 oclock church bells ring out...then explosives. All seems to b on time if 5 bells is the middle of 10 bells.
Why is it so satisfying watching things blowing up? Years of planning, engineering and construction erased in a few seconds and people's (myself included) instinctual reaction is "WOOHOOOO HELL YEAH!"
I was involved with this sort of work for a couple of years 45 years ago. Making stuff go "BOOM" was fun.........
