Watched this video recently, I found it counter-intuitive but really interesting. Its a TED talk on the science of motivation. Anyone else see this?

Interesting indeed.

I've been stewing over a restaurant kitchen management concept that encourages creativity and nips the problem of turnover in the bud. Traditional thinking is: pay them more. That's all well and good, but it's not enough, even in my own experience. I like the "FedEx Day" or Google's "20%" model.

Granted, it'll take some adaptation to the service industry, but I think it's a good place to start.

I had heard of google's 20% model and thought it was awesome. I have often though that would be an good model to use in the auto industry.

It does make sense. half of my work requires quite a bit of thought, it takes up 3/4s of my work time to do it. I can really see where a bonus for getting it done quickly would be counterproductive, it would just make me rush and really mess things up.
