Trish walked the dog last night after dinner, stopped a block away to talk to a neighbor.  Winter (the dog) bolted for a squirrel yanking her off her feet.  She hit the road faster than gravity but couldn't get up.

I just sat down to watch a car show I taped when her cell goes off, I don't answer her phone.  Then mine went off;  "Hello, this is your neighbor Chuck, your wife's down here laying in the road and can't get up".   Well E36 M3.

She laid there for 15 minutes waiting for the ambulance, it's a quiet street but you get the Ooo Ahhh Squad anyway.  One guy in a white SUV drove by 4 times.

Anyway, broken hip.  She goes to the gym 3-4 days a week, does curls and military presses standing on a ball, good for balance.  The last person I would expect to break a hip.

It's 9:00. she goes ti the OR at noon.  Gotta go.

OK, now start the "Halp!  I've fallen and can't get up" jokes.

Healing vibes to your Trish... Was it a break in/at the joint or the femur or pelvis/sacrum?

In some good bit of news for you,hip surgeries/femur repair/replacements have benefitted infinitely by today's technology.  What used to be a last-ditch procedure is now common-place, and healing is accelerated significantly.  Source- Me.  I was up and walking the day after a full hip replacement, and I'm just waiting until  the doctor says I can for the second one!

Buy her a Dodge...

That's all I got right now.

Prayers for a swift recovery for your beloved.

Man that sucks.  Hope it's a quick recovery.  Few years back a customer was afraid of her dog getting out and she fell trying to grab it.  Broke her ankle right in front of me.  I can still remember the snap.

Yeah, that's not cool...  Wishing her the best of medical science in her recovery.   Being in good shape doesn't prevent you from injuring yourself, but it should really help with the recovery!

Prayers for a speedy recovery.

The good news is that her prior exercise should significantly help with the recovery.

Let her know all the dorks on here are rooting for her.

And you.

Best wishes for her recovery. As an active and fit person the healing might be frustrating for her, but she's already motivated and well equipped to come back strong!

Surgery is moved up to 1:30 this afternoon.  Because she's healthy and even with all the stress her BP is 116/62, they will recommend home recovery or go to a place for treatment vs living at a Rehab Facility.  Full, not a partial replacement.

Look for the arrow.

While I'm not an orthopedic expert (just a repeat customer) based on my experience she's probably better off with the full replacement than futzing around with a partial.

Full replacement tends to be much more of a known quantity for both the procedure and recovery than whatever they might do for a partial.

Between the total replacement of both shoulders and both knees, they're going to make wind chimes out of me when I shuffle off this mortal coil.  If I add hip replacements to complete the set, maybe I get a free toaster?

If you get the hip replacements, you are the toaster...

Praying for a quick recovery for your wife! And coming from someone whose wife has had a lot of health issues, praying for as least stressful of a process for you as well! Injuries/health issues for the patient is terrible, but it isn't fun being the significant other seeing your wife in pain either!

Oof... Sorry to hear about this, and +1 to the observations that the work she's put into fitness should pay dividends in a quick and complete recovery. Hoping that that work, medicine, and a side of the luck that didn't show up at squirrel time help things along...

Oof. Sending healing thoughts. My (at the time) 85-year-old MIL had her third hip replacement a few years back--seriously, the woman just wears them the F out, never stops--and based on her previous experience, she expected to go to a facility to rehab. (She also didn't ask, but that's a whole other subject.) We were both shocked when the release papers came with a "you're good to go, who's staying with you?" So I ran home and quickly set up a home rehab--shower chair, potty lift, walker, etc.--and then picked her up. I was pretty apprehensive about suddenly finding myself in the rehab business, especially since Tim was traveling, but it really was nbd. She did her exercises, I waited on her as much as she'd let me, and it went smoothly. Hoping they spring Trish to you and you guys have a similarly good experience.

Thank you all!  Dr. called (it was only an hour?) and she did well, probably going home on Friday.  I don't know, but will learn about recovery;  TIL she can't drive for 4 weeks.  Oy...

heart you guys.

Good lord man!! I'm sorry you guys are going through this. Since the can't catch you right now, ask her what she's making for dinner tonight.
Eventually she will be able to catch you so you should probably have the doc schedule you for your eventual surgery.

An hour for a hip is fast and that is a good sign.  Recovery and home care will be a challenge for both of you.  But her exercise habits from the past will help.  And you will be walking the dog from now on!

Healing prayers to you both.

My wife had foot surgery and couldn't drive for 4 weeks.  It was the first time either of us had to be dependent for normal activities.  It's an odd transition.   Nothing bad about it, but just weird that anytime she wanted/needed to go somewhere we had to coordinate together.
