I've never had any surgery or been under general anesthesia before. Short term disability has already been approved by the insurance company so I won't miss out on any pay, which is good. Doc said it's a painful 2-4 week recovery time. I'm hoping I'll be out no more than 3 weeks.
If you remember the running joke from the movie Mallrats about "an uncomfortable place" I think you can figure out why it's going to be uncomfortable to sit down for a few weeks. An an example of where I got my dark, sarcastic sense of humor.
I told my dad I was nervous about the anesthesia (he's had lots of surgeries including liver cancer twice) and his response was:
"Don't worry about it. You'll wake up............and if you don't, you won't know anyway."
Your Dad is absolutely correct.
You've got this. Its normal to be nervous.
Modern anesthesia is pretty amazing; they are professionals who do this every day . Honestly for most cases, the actual surgery is just the first step.
Follow the pre and post-op instructions they give you; take the pain meds the surgeon prescribes, especially the first couple days, as well as the stool softeners.
Hey badass. How you doing?

i see what you did there
I have a friend who is a colon cancer survivor. Nicknames are given - not chosen.
Hey thanks for asking. I won't go in to too much detail, but it's getting better.
I hope none of you have to go through this.
Just another indication I have to get my E36 M3 together and start taking better care of myself.
Also, Anesthesia is wild. I was joking with people in the OR, then I was up in the recovery room.
