A few years ago, at the height of the scrap boom, I witnessed some of the most tenacious scrappers you've ever seen in the town I went to college in. You could pretty much count on anything remotely of value being gone within the hour. Put an old CRT TV out once and literally no sooner than I could walk in the house and look out the window a guy had stopped, cut the cord off, then cracked it open and yanked anything copper out of it. Total elapsed time of <2 min on the curb, simply amazing watching them sometimes.
