I think the dyno operator has some explaining to do.....
In reply to yamaha:
Smaller diameter aftermarket wheels, wrong brakes, wrong body panels, wrong stripes, etc. That video has been making the rounds of the other car sites for a few weeks. The dyno was broken long before the run started. That Mustang might not even have a V8...
Ahh, I still think it looks like bearing failure on the dyno.......although, I don't know the inner workings of the dyno dynamics in that video.....
In reply to mad_machine:
If they did knowingly, the dyno operator should be purchasing a new car for the guy
Holy hell. How did they determine it was already broken? I just saw people talking about a Vette that successfully made a pass on it prior.
It's not a Dyno Dynamics, it's a Land and Sea DYNO-mite. If you can read French, you can learn a whole lot more about what happened. I think they were doing a top speed run and just plain blew out the bearings. There are certainly other videos of the dyno being used that weekend.
Hasn't been around for "a few weeks", it happened at Expo Performance 24 last weekend
In reply to Keith Tanner:
A few weeks internet-time. Sorry, I got cranky after reading it (and the incorrect GT500 identification) on TTAC, Hooniverse, Autoblog, BangShift, etc, etc. And by "pre-broken", that's what the people who sent the video out were saying. Bad bearing or something like that. Any car on it at that particular time would have made it go boom.

And one guy probably changed cars.

I'd say.
It at least sounds like a v8 to me, and I'd guess since it has GT500 and Shelby plastered all over it, it'd be an easy mistake to make. I sure didn't know it wasn't a real GT500.
In reply to moparman76_69: The body kit is Shelby(well, the bumper covers, side skirts, hood, and spoiler are), the wheels are 18's though, the '05+ makes anything less than 20's look very very small.
It is at least supercharged, and it is a v8.....

Somebody piss in your Cheerios?
If that's a V-6, I'm a baboon.
Reminds me of this dyno run from the Car Craft Nationals six years ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozQ-WOkLYsA I was standing about 20 feet behind the guy with the camera, it was pretty exciting.
This car did end up putting out just under 1200hp to the wheels.
That mustang owner looked like a real jerk but I know he had a few dollars wrapped up in his car. Hate that for anybody. I wouldn't have put my car/truck on that rickety piece of crap though.
I remember that car craft dyno video. That dyno was only rated for 1k hp If I remember right and it couldn't register the 1,200 anyways...
On a side note... Something you don't see everyday. I saw a drag rail driving down my grandpas street today under its own power and do a burnout. My grandpa said yeah that's old $&@&$ he does that all the time when he's tuning it up for the weekend. He must be having problems, hear that miss under full throttle?
In reply to SVreX:
No, nobody did. It's just tiring to see a bunch of self-proclaimed car experts and news sites not even take two seconds to do a google image search before they believe a YouTube video description.
Here's a real Shelby GT-500 convertible:
Notice the 18's instead of 17's, larger brake rotors, black rockers and mirrors, lack of overhead stripes, no front wing add-on or side scoops or rear cover or style bar, no "GT" (clearly from a Mustang GT) decklid emblem, black diffuser, etc, etc, etc.
Don't get me wrong, it's a decent enough looking car and it looks well screwed together, but the wheels/brakes are a dead giveaway. I'm also 99% sure the whining is from the dyno and not an SC because it sure doesn't like any SC 5.4 I've ever heard.
Anyway, dyno broke, the car didn't do it, I hope the poor guy gets his car fixed, have a nice evening.
The center badge in the back is the Shelby one FWIW.
I still don't see this conclusive proof you speak so proudly of.
Meh, it could be a fake, but if it is its a damn convincing one.
Here's another pic of a 2007 GT500, without the stripe delete. The stripes are in a similar position compared to the car on the dyno.
I agree that the side scoops and front chin spoiler aren't stock, and pretty gaudy...but cars like these kinda draw that crowd. Like the Harley dudes who buy every single accessory and piece of branded clothing to wear while riding.
