Stopped in at 6 stores, but 3 were the same owners. Holy Cow, these guys are worse than used car salesman! And pricing? What pricing? They throw a random number out there approximately 500% of their cost, mark it down 50%, then try to upsell you on the box and frame. “Oh, he was going to give it to you at THAT price? He’s losing money there! Well, I guess I could match it, but I'm not gonna be taking a paycheck this week!"

From place A (you get a free onion with every purchase from here—yes, you read that right)
- Medium/Firm Full foam mattress, box, and frame for $260+tax, and hopefully I can get delivery included. Comfort at about a 6, but it is foam, which retains heat.
- Firm Full coil spring mattress, box, and frame for $285+tax, hopefully I can get delivery included. Comfort about a 7.

From place B
- Firm Full foam mattress, box, and frame, for <$250+tax delivered. Comfort about a 6.5.
- Very firm Full coil-spring, box, and frame, for $250+tax delivered. Comfort about a 5.5, but it is not foam, which means it does not sleep as hot.
- Medium/Firm Full coil-spring, box, and frame for $350+tax delivered. Comfort about a 7.5-8.

From place C
- Coil spring, box, and frame for about $250 for a full, $280 for a queen. Comfort about a 5.5.

Kind of hard to decide what I want to do as I will only be on it for about a year or two maybe. I’m sleeping fine on an air mattress right now. I wonder if Costco can beat $350 for the whole setup. And my Dad just offered me my parents King, but I have to measure my room to see if it would be reasonable. My reasoning getting a full was that when I get married, I'll want a king sized bed, but if I already have a queen I won't do it. Getting a Full forces me to.

Is there some local in-joke that I don't know about?

That's only when the store plays Barry White on the stereo

I put this up with used cars and carpeting.

Nobody has the same items so price comparison shopping is a joke.

We stopped at the "free onion" place when we went sofa shopping last year(they're a regional chain), and I swear all their "salesmen" looked like they were out on prison work-release.

One that I saw from a distance met that description, another looked like he had been a hardcore coke addict but cleaned up 5 years ago (if that makes sense) and the owner did not impress me at all. Tuck your shirt in, don't wear dirty cargo shorts, and for crying out loud, either shave or grow a beard.

Add RV's and trailers to that list, too. Dirty, dirty business.

Went through this about 3 years ago.

Original Mattress Factory is local here and they claimed they make the highest quality mattress out there. Its not a pillowtop so you can flip it every 3 months. Well after 3 years its not too bad. They claim to use heavy duty springs which they do seem to be firmer than a "regular" mattress. I paid about $750 for it (king) sans box spring and frame. It is starting to "hammock" in the middle even with flipping every 3 months. No fat jokes lol, wife is light as a feather and I'm #210 lbs. So its not like two hippos sleeping on this thing. At the time and for the money, it was the best non pillowtop I could find.

Last winter I stayed two nights in a hotel. Slept on a mattress called "Tranquility Nights" by Serta. It was more comfortable imo than my home mattress and I slept real good. Appartently this one is sold only to hotels, darn.

It's not the "hospitality business" until they let you buy one of their mattresses.

Sounds like you need to up your game from just towels huh?

Queen or bust here, nothing smaller works, even when I'm sleeping alone
(which, sadly, is most of the time)
Been putting off replacing my current mattress for a couple years, thankfully I'm really good at sleeping.
