How would one go about shipping several TR7 hoods from Western Canada to  New England?  I'm assuming they would have to be palletized and in a wooden box.  Where would I even go to get a quote so as to determine if this is even a viable solution.  Been looking for hoods for a couple of years, and the ones I find are either crazy priced, far away, or both.  Sitting on two TR8 resto projects because I can't find hoods.  The only time I have ever truck freighted something, it was handled by the buyer.  I boxed it up and left it a local business that had a dock.

The first question is where in where in western Canada?

Carefully crate them and look for an LTL carrier. I think that stands for "Less than (full) Load".  You'll spend more in shipping than they cost you. Fed Ex Freight may work.

Big panels are REALLY  difficult to ship without damage.

An excellent question.  I live close to the middle of western Canada, and I'm a thousand miles from the west coast.

The most important part is to pony up whatever dough is required for good quality crating.  Then as mentioned above, ltl carrier.  Call the names you see on trucks in your neighborhood, and ask what they recommend.

I ship to Maine from time to time and YRC seems to have the best rates. Crate them as small as you can, measure and weigh the crate and then go to YRC dot com and fill out a dimensional freight quote. You can do that without making an account.  If you Google canada customs invoice you can print and fill out a customs invoice for the broker. If you can drive the crate to a major center you will save a lot. It will cost you around $300.00 is my guess.

Moving companies offer packing services, and U-Haul sells big screen TV and art boxes that may fit a wrapped hood.

I know around our area there are several places that offer crating services.  Typically they also offer a place for the truck to pick up the freight as well. Try a local outfit and see if they have contact info for anyone near where the hoods are coming from. Should be able to stand them vertically with padding underneath with padding around them inside the crate. My experience with trucking companies is that they intentionally damage irreplaceable items, make sure that they are well packed and insured. My experience in New England is that YRC is terrible,  maybe because they are cheaper than the others. Most of the time they are late and give you huge delivery window, like we will be there between 8 and 5.
