We have talked to the Police. Again. Have talked to the bank. Again. Have changed our accounts. Again. Have notified our client. Again. It appears to have definitely came from our wire transfer info because of the address shown is our old address. Jane is completely paranoid at this time. Arrgghh. Really looks like this originated from one of our clients that has a friend in the States.

It's kind of amazing to me that we still use checks. They are primitive, at best, and seem to have practically no safety features. I won't pay anyone with a check that I don't know. Maybe I am paranoid, but I haven't had anything stolen yet.

I use checks occasionally if a repairman wont/cant accept a credit card. I had my debit card number hijacked by someone while I was on an international cruise.

About a week after I was back, they used my card to pay for a to go meal they purchased online for like $18. Once they saw it worked, they made several larger purchases at walmart.com and target.com, nearly $2k. The restaurant was in Detroit. Luckily for me, I just happened to check my account about 10 min after the whole thing started. I called the bank, explained that both me and my card were in Cincinnati, not buying burgers in Michigan. While I was on the phone with the fraud dept, they attempted to make 2 more purchases, which further substantiated my claim that I was not in fact buying plasma screens and laptops.

Luckily, the bank put the cabash on the whole thing, and I got all my cash back, less than an hour after it all started. Now a days, I never have more than a couple hundred in checking, and the rest is in a savings. I just xfer between the 2 when I have bigger purchases to make.

Banks seem to want to be on top of these problems. Somebody is losing money on these transactions, but not the bank customers. Good for me, anyway.
