I turned 40 last thursday and as a gift to myself I threw a couple of parties, one of them being a wedding for myself and my squeeze Bianca.

Saturday was "The aTACOlypse" I invited 45 of our closest friends into my backyard for a bit of a wedding "preception" I braised 15 pounds of carnitas, did a fajita stlye marinade of 15 pounds of chicken and 10lbs of Molida.

Tacos were consumed en mass

and a LOT of music was played

Ran from 3 til midnight. We all ate way too much and a few of us drank way too much. It was amazing.

The next morning a bit hungover and worse for wear we still managed to put together a bit of a "do" at the local rose gardens.

Sadly being busy at all times I wasn't able to take any pictures of my own and what other folks did take have yet to start trickling in.

We played two songs. "It only goes to show" by The Haints and "Love Song" by The Damned

Exchanged some incredibly vague vows that made everyone laugh and were introduced as married.

"Do you promise to always do stuff, and things and keep your cool when E36 M3 goes down?" Hell yes I do!

If this is forty then I am just fine with it.

Congratulations! It's not about being proper and pretentious, it's about doing what is right. And if that is tacos and a jam session, and you were able to surround yourselves with friends and love, good for you.

I used to think that 40 was old. Now that I am 46, I am understanding all of those "old guys" when I was a 17 year old autocrosser with a singular life focus (well, two foci actually. One just got me in more trouble than the other).

It was an accident. I was sitting around strumming the song a few months back and Bianca asked me what it was, as it sounded familiar. I sang the first line and she the second. It just kinda clicked and we were instantly doing a Johnny and June call and response version of a punk rock classic. My one regret is that we didn't get the time to have our violinist friend in on it. I think the fiddle could have pulled off the guitar solos perfectly and kept the vintage country theme.

Oh yeah. For all you musician types. Steveclayton.com is who made the picks. They are here in Oregon, very inexpensive (100 custom picks for $35) and super awesome to deal with. I am never buying plain ones again.

When there was a problem with the first order they got a hold of me right away, changed the order to a more expensive product and denied me the pleasure of giving them more money. They just said "congrats"

Congrats Ditchdigger! Now, I've got to go down to the kitchen and see if I have enough ingredients for some tacos.

I spy a D28 (First picture, seated), a Washburn, and a Seagull?

In reply to mtn:

Spot on!

The Washburn is Bianca's. I know nothing about it other than it is all solid wood. The cedar topped Seagull has been from the willamette valley to Thailand to Ketchikan and back, the head stock has been broken off 4 times and it just sounds better every day. The D-28 owner pictured is jealous every time he plays it. Its got some serious boom.

The first time it was broken a local luthier fixed it. That lasted a month. The second time a "woodworker friend" stuck it back on with gorilla glue and a few nuts and bolts through it . When it broke off again it was given to me and I did a careful titebond repair which lasted 8 years until a drunk (me) stumbled into it at another of my BBQ parties and this time I routed slots and reinforced the joint with some maple

 photo 20140601_225112_zpsh9xuekwz.jpg

It better not break again. I don't think it can take any more repairs and it sounds so much better than any other seagull I have heard. I love that thing.
