The Jayhawks: Waiting for the Sun
I think I bought all their CDs and listened to a lot of Jayhawks music in the nineties. They were an alt country band from Minneapolis and wrote most of their own music. The primary artists were Mark Olson and Gary Louris. Louris played excellent guitar and wasn't timid about using his Fuzz Master. This song was from their "Hollywood Town Hall" CD in the early nineties. Great song. Great CD.

Earle yourtub video mix link (not paddling a canoe) I really like his earlier stuff that is pre-Copperhead Road. I also like the Copperhead Road album but it seems to be a significant change to a more commercial sound.. Part of me thinks "It's a shame he's such an addict" but another part thinks "His music wouldn't be the same or as good if he wasn't." Just realized younger Earle looks a lot like the comedian Mitch Hedberg...I'm a big fan of Steve Earle and his son Justin Townes Earle, as well as the late, great Townes Van Zandt, who his son is named after. But a friend of mine saw Steve perform at a small venue in southeastern MA. His singing was superb as expected. But his obsessive ranting of political views between songs ruined the performance, sort of like Barbra Streisand or Jackson Browne, or Bruce Springsteen. He wanted to shout "shut up and sing."
I had similar reactions. I saw him about 2 years ago, and while very good, the political bent wasn't what I wanted to hear. I wouldn't call it ranting, but it was annoying. I don't really want the political opinions of an ex-heroin addict who didn't go to college.
I am listening to Tracey Chattaway. I spend a few hours a day looking for on brand music. Yea it is a tough gig.
Unfortunately I am 26 minutes into Jethro Tull's "thick as a brick"
I kinda want to die right now, This is so seriously everything I hate about self indulgent music.
I am gonna go find some headphones and blast this into my brain to compensate

Gary Louris and Mark Olson: Blue
The nucleus of The Jayhawks ... this is a studio recording of one of The Jayhawks most popular songs.

Heino - Schwarz Blüht der Enzian
German volksleider reworked as heavy metal tunes and sung by the much celebrated, much reviled, Heino, the legendary and iconic 72 year old German folk singer. I am playing the crap out of this lately.

Great R&B sound. I wish I could find an album, but they are out of Europe somewhere. No luck on the Googles.
Scott Hamilton: East of the Sun and West of the Moon
Not the Olympic ice skater, this Scott Hamilton is a native Providence,Rhode Island tenor sax jazz musician. He plays smooth tenor sax jazz like Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. He's an ex-pat living in London these days, but occasionally gets back to Rhode Island. And when he does, I try to catch him at Chan's Chinese restaurant in Woonsocket, the local mecca for great blues and jazz (other than the Newport Jazz Festival).
Here he is performing at a jazz club in Vienna, Austria (like Chan's in Woonsocket, RI, it's a small venue, the best way to enjoy great jazz like this):

So if you have a stressful job or stressful life, select Scott Hamilton on Pandora, sit back, relax, and listen. Guaranteed, your stress will subside.
Cracker 'Euro Trash Girl' from 'Kerosene Hat'. Catchy and funny as hell too.

For some reason my head unit was in a Cracker mood, it would play something random then 'Low', another random song then 'Euro Trash Girl', something random, another Cracker song etc

I have that CD ... somewhere. I saw them on ... I think it was Letterman on a New Years Eve, back in the early nineties. They performed "Low," and I liked it so much I bought the CD. That's what people did back in those days. Subsequently, I only listened to Low. But thanks for reminding us about Cracker. And thanks to You Tube, I don't have to go scrounging the attic for my old CD.
'Low' is a great song, as is 'Get Off This'. I saw them a long time ago at Wavefest in Charleston. That was back when 96 Wave was THE leading alt-rock station in the country. I nearly lost it when they changed formats. http://www.charlestoncitypaper.com/charleston/the-demise-of-96-wave/Content?oid=1111408
I used to sing "Euro Trash Girl" to my kids as a lullaby. I'm a big David Lowery / Cracker / Camper Van Beethoven fan from a ways back.
Despite that, for whatever reason, this song has a real grip on me right now. Like, play-it-on-repeat-type grip:
In reply to mtn:
I don't think whether he went to college or not has any relevance. Lots of idiots go to college and spend a bunch of $ getting useless degrees...
I try to ignore the politics of most "artists" because all the really good ones are pretty much F-ed in the head. My theory is that the proximity to insanity makes them incredible artists, but completely useless human beings...applies to writers, painters, sculptors, musicians, actors, etc.
Hard to believe but...

Eagles: Take It Easy
Wife and I were at the local pub and the band opened with it. Not a bad cover. When I got home I found an old Eagles CD and listened to the original. Great song and one of the best bands of the seventies.
I always thought "it's a girl my Lord in a flatbed Ford" should be "flat head Ford." If I was in a band and covered this song that's the way I'd sing it.
When you and your significant other really want to chill out and relieve all stress, select "Liquid Mind" in Pandora. You'll be relaxed and asleep in minutes. Some adult beverage may enhance the experience.
