Annie and I saw these guys perform live tonight at a small venue on the East Side of Providence, RI. It was a private performance in the parlor of a restored Victorian mansion on Hope Street with only around 30 people in the audience. Pretty neat band and venue. Believe me, it was a great musical experience.

"Jock-a-mo fi na ney"
Who the hell knows what that means, but this is real cool vintage New Orleans music, done up by the Good Doctor. He played this for Annie and me (well, not personally, but we were there with a few thousand other paid participants) at the Newport Folk Festival a few years ago ... Friday night opening performance at the Tennis Hall of Fame venue.

BB a'cappella
OK, I admit, as an old-timer, I'm a fan of original early Beach Boys music. And I love their a capella stuff, that is, without any additional musical accompaniment whatsoever. They really didn't need it.
If you're interested, listen to this all the way through from "California Girls" to "Wouldn't it be Nice."

That was very interesting video...liked it even with the confusing visuals... LOL
This Album has been in constant replay on both my portable and desktop audio system the past few days:
My favorite two songs being High and Paper Tree... love the electric bass and drums on the songs along with keyboard. Being classically trained along with having a unique take on things really shows:

Eilen Jewell
It's Eilen, don't call me "Eileen" goddammit. She's a most excellent female vocalist of the "Americana" genre.

I don't get the corny "artistic" b&w cinematography. I'd much prefer living color. But it's really about the music, and in that respect, it's pretty good.

Live performance.Pretty good.
High Shelf Booze
Studio version, which unusually, I prefer in this case, probably because of the clarinet. Nobody uses a clarinet in their back up band these days. But I like the clarinet. So I think this is a great version of this song.

Jeffery Foucault - Lodi
We were at the Jonathan Edwards Winery in North Stonington, CT, this afternoon. Beautiful early spring day in SoNE. Nice southwest-facing patio at the winery. So of course we had to drink wine. Connecticut has relatively liberal wine-making regs. Jonathan meets the letter of the law with his estate grown grapes, but he imports a huge amount of juice from California wine country. (He oversees production out there during the harvest season). Hence, his reds taste just like California reds. Very delicious. So we picked up a bottle of Zinfandel made from grapes grown in Lodi, CA, sat on the patio, and enjoyed ourselves. But I immediately thought of CCR's song "Lodi." So that's what I'm listening to now. However, I personally like Jeffery Foucault's cover better than Fogerty's original.
Jeez, that was a long-winded explanation.
