In light of the show us your garage thread, I might finally get around to tackling some long overdue tarting up of my garage.

I've got a couple of old metal cabinets, some faded tool boxes and some heavy duty shelves that could all do with some form of paint. What do the great minds of grm suggest?

A few options that have crossed my mind are hammertone paint, bed liner and to a lesser extent Plasti dip. I like the look forward wrinkle paint, but so far can't seem to find it in larger quantities than rattle cans.

And go.

Most people I know use regular old house paint.

I apparently use a mixture of wd40 and grinding swarf.

Don't be like me

I like the Hammered finish Rustoleum, it is tough and hides imperfections well.

I'll second this, and it's easy to touch up as well.

Has anybody ever tried it on wood? I have some old wood cabinets I'm going to hang in my shop. I wonder how it would look?

In reply to Jumper K. Balls:

Mine are currently a mix of dust and greasy hand prints, at least I could make them all the same colour before letting them get greasy and dusty again.

I'm all about reducing the amount of prep these things need. Hiding imperfections I'd a big plus and part of the reason I'm leaning towards the textured finish. Toughness is another

Chalk board paint?  Or white board paint?

I have chalkboard paint on my kegerator.    seems to scratch very easily.

I can't see chalk board standing up to the rough and tumble of garage duties, but I do have a rattle can of chalk board paint that could be used for painting some small panels on things allowing for easy labelling and relabelling which could be handy
