Mrs. Dx has a conference in San Diego in a couple weeks. I am going with her and will have time to kill. The San Diego Zoo is probably on the to do list. Anything else worth seeing or places to eat? Not sure if there will be a rental car. Also, the timeframe is Sunday to Wednesday.
The Air and Space museum in Balboa Park is for sure worth a visit.

Skip the zoo. Do the wild animal park, and take the safari tour. The zoo is old-school with depressing cages. The wild animal park is basically a reproduction of an African setting and they put you in a cage on a truck and you can go out amongst the critters. There are also lots of other buildings and displays to see including a lovebird enclosure where you can feed the birds.
Also really high on the list is the SD Aquarium. Sea World is a let-down now that they're not allowed to have many marine animals in captivity anymore. I agree that they shouldn't, but it makes for a less exciting day.
Laguna Beach is a neat town just up the road
I know that San Diego means “whales vagina”in German.

You definitely need to go to the Aerospace museum. It's on my list.
Also if you are at all geeky, Mysterious Galaxies bookstore on Balboa Ave. in Clairemont Mesa is worth a visit. My girlfriend says not to miss Lighthouse Icecream at Dog Beach.
There is a place downtown that makes the most amazing surf and turf burritos. Almost life changing. I’m in SD like 1-3x a year for work, and always make it a point to go by this place....of course, am blanking on the name right now. There is also a place right on the beach boardwalk where you can have breakfast sitting outside and watch the sunrise. Very cool.

In contrast to Curtis, I like the Zoo much more than the Wild Animal Park. You can actually see the animals at the Zoo, whereas you need to bring super high powered binoculars to see them at the Wild Animal Park.
There's also Sea World, which is great, plus Lego Land if you have kids 8 and under. Lots of good restaurants although I usually go to my favorite Taco Shop as much as possible when I go home (grew up in SD), which is Don Carlos on Pearl St in La Jolla.
I also really like the OB Noodle House in Ocean Beach...

AME conference? If so, I'll be there too.
This thread is very relevant to my future interests....
