Land, house, big shop, check. Far enough out for some privacy, but not so far out that I have to drive an hour for groceries, either. Then I'd start collecting/swapping interesting cars from the 70s to now, nothing too expensive, like a $20k cap, just whatever catches my fancy. Probably get a new Super Duty for hauling these wrecks around, and I'd daily something like an Audi S8 or an AMG Merc.

I know someone that something similar happened to it was not 10M but still a large sum of $$$. He still drives a 20 year old econobox and a 14 year old truck. His house still needs a roof. Still goes to work every day. Nothing changed except for a couple more zeros on the Vanguard statement every month.
Well, what I would do were I on my own is a good bit different than what would actually happen largely in part due to SWMBO (and not particularly in a bad way, just a different way).
SWMBO started a non-profit dance company to give special needs & low-income kids the chance to learn to dance... with the company about 3 years old funding is a constant battle and she's always having to fill out grant requests. First thing I'd do would be to put about 1mil or so into a managed trust for the non-profit to establish a steady stream of income for it so she could just do what she really wants to with it- teaching the dancing- and not have to look at another grant proposal again for the rest of her life.
Would probably take another chunk to start a non-profit of my own: a non-profit auto repair shop to provide free or reduced-cost auto repair to people who really needed it. Do normal repair work too, but that would just help subsidize the non-profit work. As part of the deal of getting the free/reduced cost repairs, the owners would have to complete a basic car maintenance class- things like checking fluids and such so that hopefully their repaired car is less likely to end up back needing MORE repairs. Also have an apprenticeship program for people who were out of work but willing to put in the effort to learn to be mechanics.
Try and buy the place a block over that has like a 4-stall garage and a small barn on the property and move there. Buy a few more fun cars, but otherwise live mostly the same life.
Invest the rest wisely so when we're ready we can pack up and move someplace like Santorini, Greece to retire in peace.
Cabin in Alaska where I can avoid the world if I want to and a 240z.
Basically what I am currently doing without "working".
Invest a lot, volunteer a lot.
I modest place in the Adirondacks on a lake (for summer). A place with a big shop near Brevard in Pisgah National Forest (for spring/fall). An apartment in Key West (for winter).
A Earthroamer to travel between those three places and the rest of the globe.
That should leave about 8 million for investment.

I'd walk out of my job immediately. I'd get some space around me and drink in the mountain air as I built a house I designed. Build a shop then I'd create interesting things on that $400k annual income.
I think it's telling that Mr Keith Tanner, big wheel in the FM universe with his hands on some of the coolest toys one can imagine, would leave that behind in a heartbeat if money fell from the heavens.
Play golf. A lot of golf. When not playing golf I'll be playing in my shop with attached house. Might even let my wife and kids hang out there too.

There's a difference between having your hands on cool toys occasionally and having to go to work every day and deal with all the rest of it. You guys get to complain about stuff at work, I can't

This is pretty close to what I'd want. Different locations (well, maybe key west is the same), but same idea.

I'm on a three week binge of watching all the detailing shows on YouTube and re reading all of the books I have in the subject. I can detail a car. I've brought many back from the dead. I really love to do it. I have no clue how to make money at it. Put me in a situation where I wouldn't need to make money at it and I would be happy as a clam doing it for the rest of my life.

I can tell you how a friend of mine does it. He hooked up with a few of the nicer rich dudes in the area, and did their audis. Those guys went around and said j-rad is dope, let him do your car. He does detailing on the weekends, and a solid client list. Find a friend that's hooked up with bmwcca, corvettes, etc. Offer deals for referrals. And obviously don't berkeley up anyone's car.

I tried convincing my ex- do try that. She loves detailing cars. Especially a car she hasn't seen before. But never felt she was good enough. Everyone we knew begged to differ.
I can't even remotely wrap my head around where I'll be in 18 years and 4 months to understand my starting point. I had an answer but then I remembered the 40 year bit and realized my answer made 0 sense.
