That car makes me think of the concept of it requiring hundreds of dollars and dozens of hours to get your pants below your boxers or get your baseball cap sideways.
It also brings to mind the phrase "fashion victim".

I use the Votex in a kind of "read only" mode for answers to questions that I might not be able to find easily elsewhere: like an aggregation of the different cams available for the 8v MKIII.
As far as posting there and expecting something useful? It's a stretch. I am seriously going to try to supercharge my MkIII and possibly put box flares on it.

I'm no VW expert, but I think a Scirocco is the name of a wind in Africa, a sirocco, hence his name. A number of VW car names are corruptions of a wind name.
I have a feeling this is one of those 300 lb guys that has piles of cheetos under his car seat.

My '89 was built in PA. I was told that they stopped building VWs there earlier than that, but the car said differently.
Made me laugh every time I drove by a Canadian car with a "Don't put my flag on your imported car" bumper sticker. (I guess they really do believe that they're the 51st State)
kid at school who works at a euro tuner shop, drives an a4 1.8t.
he was about 5 feet away from my friend dylan one day while he was talking about tuning his friends cobalt with the gm software he just got. Out of the blue, the vwtool who WAS NOT in the conversation just says, very loudly, cobalts are slow! and then stares at them.
this guy definitely drives a stock 1.8t.
that car definitely ran 3 seconds slower than my basically stock kia in the 1/8th mile.
lol
everything I've heard come out of almost all the vw heads at school and around town has been ridiculously elitist.
It's pretty mind boggling.
At my last job, there was one guy who owned a 1st. gen. Scirocco he brought with him from Cali. Early VWs are rare in New England and rust-free versions rarer still. It was a sweet car. Sadly, the owner was a doucherocket of the highest order. He wouldn't miss an opportunity to put down his coworker's cars if they were anything but German, and would prattle on constantly about how his VW would kill V-8 Mustangs and such. There was one coworker with a built 2nd gen. Eclipse GSX who tried to humble Mr. VW. He wiped the floor with the Scirocco in a highway race but the owner still refused to think it was made of anything less than gold. Mr. VW had some irrational hatred of the Subaru Impreza I had at the time and kept chiding me for not buying a 4-Motion-equipped VW with its AWD system that was superior to even the STi's. I told him I preferred to have a car that would start up and run everyday instead of "most of the time" like his Scirocco.
<> I like VWs. I've owned many. I Know they are trouble. I hate the rep the rest of the country puts on the owners. Seems here in VT it's not as bad, but this place likes things like Peugeots and Alfas!
Just added an '83 Rabbit IT car to the stable.
Best VW person I know? Pedro in Marietta, Georgia. DILYSI Dave should know who I'm talkin about.

No, we think you're the eleventh province, or possibly the fourth territory.
I don't know this bumper sticker of which you speak.

I think he's confused about the fact we build a lot of dem der 'merikan automobiles.

I've seen that sticker on a Mexican-built Fiesta. I'm sure the owner's head would asplode if he found out.

You are correct sir, although some of them were a strech (Golf=Gulf)
The Scirocco Forum tended to remain one of the more low key areas. Although the diatribe of 8v greater than 16v sounds familiar, the connotation came from how well each stood up to neglect. Break a timing belt on an 8v, buy new belt and refine. Break a TB on a 16v and its often sent to the wrecker after the owner saw the estimate for a rebuild. It was one of the first interference engines for VW afterall.
I'm on my second 16v Scirocco and I love them to death. Gotta get off my behind and put the refinished head on my 87 to hear her howl.
And as for the German vs Mexican vs US built cars, its mostly elitism that favors Germany, Mexican and even the random Brazilian cars always seemed fine. But the US ones were kind of rolling train wrecks, kinda makes me wonder about the new generation of MI built Jettas and Passats.
is this the part where I get to laugh until I pass out?
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I LOVE this
what you wrote, my experiences with those skinny jean flatbrim berkeleytards, and that disgusting, awful, makes me want to rip his gentlemens vegetables out Rabbit that has the retarded camber makes me SOOOOOO happy that I got out of the scene and sold my 85 GTI, (which does make me cry though because that is one of the best cars i've ever experienced) and the fact that I can stop being classified in the same class as those utter pillocks.
That Rabbit was ridiculous, when I was down at H2O, that was it's first event he brought it to, he had to stop every 10-15 minutes to tighten the bolts and couldn't drive more then 35 miles per hour. It spent the whole weekend pretty much on the back of a flatbed. The guy was a toolbag to put it nicely.

Not really a stretch at all. Golfstrom is Gulf Stream in german.

I don't want to be "that guy" but my experience with most young male VW owners is they desperately wanted a BMW but couldn't afford one and ended up with the vw. Now to make up for some kind of inferiority complex they have with their car they must put down every other car until they can afford a BMW, Merc, Audi. YMMV.
that may explain why they talk up their vdubs.. but continually trash them. I can't stand how they "deconstruct" them for "patina"
Did anyone see the pics of that rabbit before he got it? It was a while ago that i saw it, but it used to be a really nice car, and he bought it just to ruin a nice car and take it to a show and see what people would do. Basically a real life troll.

I bought my MkIV 1.8t Jetta new over a used E36 325iS Coupe that cost about the same and I never regretted it. The MkIV was a great car despite my best efforts at running it into the ground.
It's a shame it will be remembered for its douchey owners, but they aren't any douchier than baggy-clothes types in their Civics and Eclipses.
You guys act like only VW people "stance out" their cars or apply fake patina to once nice cars. Every car group does it. Hell the faked patina thing started out in the american rat rod scene, Stretched tires and rediculous camber came from Japan. Civics were sporting the rusted hoods before it caught on in the VW scene.
Do a google image search using the term "rat look" Among the VW's there are Datsun's, Focii, BMW's, S13's, Opels, Vauxhals, mercedes...ect.
Everything you love to hate about the VW scene came from somewhere else.
Post a rusty lowered VW and folks get their panties in a bunch. Post a link to ratsun.net and everybody drools.
I guess because I spent decades battling rust.. people making their cars intentially rusty just sits wrong with me

As dumb as it sounds, I've never thought to look it up in German, good call.
On the note of the OP's orginal close encounter with doucebaggitude, kidz from the 'scene' see my car and keep asking if I'm going to H20/Waterfest and I can't think of a decent reason as to why I'd want to.

Club that berkeleyer upside the head, see if that gets his brain going and he fixes that E36 M3.

I couldn't agree with you more. I have an a couple MGs waiting on major rust repairs. I just don't see what could possibly be appealing about encouraging corrosion. To each their own and all that though I guess. I give the cortex a wide berth until someone points out a build thread on there that sounds cool; I still want a rear wheel drive Corrado.
