I hate on the haters that hate the haters that are hating on haters.
I heard X6 drivers wet the bed anyway.

What VW? What about a van?
The people have spoken, and they want SUV's and SUV like things. I'll keep my Miata and 964, but I certainly don't blame the automakers for building the very thing the market apparently wants. I have a 27 year old coworker who LOVES his Crosstour, while it makes me wretch in my mouth just a little. So be it: he likes car payments and I don't. Honda wins.

I'd love to see a not quite mainstream motorsports magazine test that theory! Several premium current SUVs vs the GRM forums favorite grassroots alternatives.

Get real guys, some one likes the car or they wouldn't buy it. There are many cars I don't see the point of but I don't spend hours proving that they are crap.
That is pretty much it. I like the X6, and would by one if I had the means. I am also a bit of a douchebag though so that may prove what everyone already thinks. I could only think of one thing BMW could do to generate more outrage.

TDI Sportwagen. Van is massive overkill for a DD. Even a Mazda5 is on the large side, though it'll probably get pondered, especially if they fit it with the diesel.
What would suit me well is a car, but one with a sizeable cargo area in the back. Our WRX isn't too bad, but the hatch area is on the small side. We'd like to get the dog and luggage in at the same time...

The people haven't had anything else to choose in years. This is part of why I'm so resistant to the CX-5. I buy that, and then you can point at me and say "See! He wanted an SUV!"
I surely do not want an SUV. Except maybe a Range Rover, but that's not for the DD...
How about GRM does an SUV shootout with Keith's 7, ala Caterham vs Bowler. Despite the massive HP difference, the Bowler comported itself quite well on track.
Also to the point that X5's that tow would E36 M3 driveline parts with any actual mileage- is there any evidence of this anywhere? I'm truly asking because an X35D or X3.0i could be in my future (again, for towing my nonexistent Airstream), and I want to know.
In reply to Nathan JansenvanDoorn:
I believe it's only available as the Outback. So I can only get it with an SUV-esque lift. At least it is very nearly a wagon; I wonder whether it could be lowered to normalcy...
It gets decent mileage for what it is, though I really don't need the AWD system. The mileage and price hit aren't all that bad (though the CX-5 gets not-inconsequentially better mileage).
Anyhow, I'm sure I'll find something to drive. My point is that I feel folks are being sold a bill of goods. Yes, they're buying it, but I don't think that's proof of what they'd buy if they had all options.

Oh my god... Yes!
If BMW did this I would get a BMW tattoo just to show my approval.

They show it on the Acura site...
That's a little pricier than I care to go (not insanely, but it matters; the base is about $5k more than a moonroof-equipped TDI). It's totally a fair example of a sane wagon, though.
