I know this CL add must be a scam (the pic is lifted from the internet) , but the fact that it's completely believable is a sad statement on the people of the modern world.
Red dirt bike - $500 (West Chester)
I won this at a raffle at the mall but I don't ride, will use the money for a new phone. Thanks call Michal show contact info comes with stand!

When I was a kid/teen/young adult I would have moved heaven and earth to have a dirt bike half as awesome as Honda CRF 450. Sell it for less than a quarter of its valve to buy a phone? Stop the world, I want to get off!!! (And go back to the one where even prom queens and sissy's had to admit that dirt bikes were better than life itself)
If I was an urban teen I would sell it off too. A non street legal bike? That means you would have to also buy a truck and perhaps trailer to take it anywhere to ride it, and if he doesn't have the mean to drop $500 on a new phone he also can't afford the transport system for a dirt bike.
I would push it any distance.
Oh wait, that's what I did for about three years!
You haven't at least called yet?

Call from a pay phone.
I bet they are pranking somebody with that phone number. I did that to a roommate once, but I said to fax the number.

You would think so... but I was in downtown Williamsport Friday and saw about 10 people (kids) on ATVs and dirt bikes ripping around city streets like some post apocalyptic biker gang.

Urban dirt bag gangs...it's a thing.
And it may not be a kid - could just be someone older who's broken too many bones already but likes entering raffles.
Sadly, I too can understand selling it. Other than a few tracks, there's virtually nowhere to ride that around here. If you're not into motorcross tracks, you out grow your back yard real fast.
Even tagged adv type bikes, there's hardly anywhere to ride them around here either. Sure, I can ride to the state forests, then I can ride dirt roads I can drive my Miata down. Wee?

This reminds me of a newspaper ad my father followed up on back before the Internet was the place for ads. It was a new Kawasaki JetSki (standup) advertised for a very low price. We show up at the address to look at it and discover we have found the proverbial "wrong side of the tracks". Run down house, very run down garage full of garbage... and one shiny brand new JetSki just sitting there on the cement floor. The seller claimed he had won it in a raffle. It was either very true or it was a stolen JetSki. I do not recall if the title was discussed as my father decided he didn't want it.
Sometimes people have other interests and just want cash fast.
I don't give a E36 M3 why he's selling it as long as he has a title.

I gotta agree. It's a crappy commentary on society when a phone is more valuable than a dirt bike.
In reply to Curmudgeon:
Yes, that's my point exactly.
In reply to N Sperlo:
Generally speaking, dirt bikes don't have titles.

That is EXACTLY what it looked like. A bunch of older kids on a mishmash of dirt bikes and ATVs seriously ripping thru town traffic in tees and shorts, no lids.
I was unaware that it was a thing.

We Have those gangs in NYC too. They have no problem riding on crowded sidewalks or through courtyards of apartment buildings. The police generally don't chase them because when one of those cherubs runs and gets hurt or killed it's the cop's fault for being too aggressive. I would fix it with a couple chain across intersections.
Look what happened a couple years ago.
One of the culprits got sent away.
I have lived in a city of 1mil plus people for the past 6 years on and off.
I grew up in a small city that was 45k people when I was born, 100k people now. We almost always lived on the outskirts, so it was nothing to hop on the quads/snowmobiles and be in the farmers fields/hills in 2 minutes.
But having been in the big city, I can completely see how unreasonable it would be for some kids. If your parents didn't have a vehicle to haul it with, or even a car with a hitch, plus are they going to drive you out of town (which will take 30 minutes depending on where you live) until you are actually out in the country and then what, wait around for you to ride around for hours?
It really does suck though. I'll always have trucks, trailers, quads and snowmobiles, so not such a big deal. But for 75% of people in the bigger cities, its extremely impractical.
