SE Michigan=2:1
For the hell of it, I counted PT Cruisers and Saturn S series during my commute to and from work. Both cars are distinctive, the PT Cruiser is... well a PT Cruiser. The second gen Saturn S series have a unique headlight arrangement and is hard to miss.
counted four (4) Saturn S and two (2) PT cruisers.
The survey was conducted on a 55 mile stretch of I94 Took about 1 hour and the margin of error is zero.
All right, lets take a look at some hard numbers.
Craislist for Jackson Michigan...
Nine (9) PT Cruisers listed, three do not run. That works out to 33.3% NFG
Three (3) Saturn S series (96-2001) listed and all the sellers claim they run. That works out to 0.00% NFG
There it is...

Yep, I think the good Dr has this thread covered.

I see more Saturns than PT Cruisers for sure.
Local CL has 6 PT cruisers and 0 sarturns

More interesting is the PT Cruiser (non-limited edition) to PT Cruise Limited Edition ratio. From what I tend to see on the road, I think there are more limited edition ones than non-limited edition....sorta seems like they didn't quite understand the concept of limited edition.
On my way to work I pass at least half a dozen PTs in the three mile commute. There are less Saturns in town than that but I live in a small town. So maybe 4 PTs for every Saturn.
Around my parts I would say 4:1 PT over the Saturn. Either way it seems to be a race to the bottom for both of them.

How many of the PT Cruisers run?
13 Saturns : 28 Pt Cruisers.
All of them 'ran', although a couple of the S-cars were definitely a total loss. Engine and trans good though.

That sounds like a challenge!

Because no one wants to sell a running Saturn?

LOL,
...years ago my plane landed in Kansas city after midnight and the only car left on the rental lot was a black PT Cruiser special edition with gold trim. I was like... anything else?, I'll drive a dump truck if you got one...
Anyway, tomorrows survey...

My mom used to travel extensively for work and almost always got stuck with a PT Cruiser as her rental car. She took to calling them PT losers. She hated them so much she started paying for upgrades out of her own pocket.
I drove a Saturn SC2 for years and it was fine, racked up 100,000 miles (started at 96K). Drove a new Crusier as a rental for 8 hours and hated every second.
The issue is, your sampling method is all wrong. You're going to encounter more PTs as you're driving, because you're not a berktard, and 99.89234% of PT drivers are. They're consistently doing 11 mph under the limit, obstructing traffic, raising the general publics blood pressure, while continuing to operate under the assumption that all the other people,on the road are staring at them because they're fully engulphed in jealous envy at their frosty cool ride. Since they're a rolling roadblock, you're stuck behind them, therefore, you are able to count them. The clearly more intelligent Saturn owners are all way ahead of you, unable to be seen because they're not head-in-ass toolbags like the PT guys, and have already reached their destination because they kept up with traffic.

Funny, I was just looking at 2nd gen Saturns the other day and wondering if their funky head lights with the close together inner front lights would even be legal for Euro regulations.

I drove an S-series to work today and I make a conscious effort to ignore PT Cruisers. 1:0.
I see more 2nd Gen S-series than PTC's around here- but then since I had a 2000 SL2 until last fall I still notice them a lot more than most other cars (though I notice Prii? Priusses? a lot more since that's what I drive the most now). I've never liked anything about the PT Cruiser- the convertibles look especially ridiculous. If I were to pick only one car to fix up and flip, it would be Saturn S-Series- reliable, stupid easy (and cheap) to find parts for, and reasonably easy to work on.

The inner lights are for the daytime running lamps. The regular low beams are on the outer section.
