And im talking about not the car itself. For me the following stuff makes me not want to call

1) Seller doesnt know the difference between sell and sale. Oh you got a car for sell. Good luck with that Jethro.

2) The pics were taken in a trailer park. I dont want to get bit by your pit bull when i get there.

3) There is a can of monster in the cupholder. I dont care if you drink it but if you cant be troubled to take it out for the pics i dont want to talk to you.

Also, don't tell me you'll get back to me when you have time. I'm already looking elsewhere.

"Car could use a tune-up" .....meaning engine has low/no compression on at least one cylinder

Seller doesn't have a clue about the car he/she is trying to sell.....example: the rare 2000 Mazdaspeed Protege

Not being able to spell the make and model of the car you're selling, when it is theoretically right outside for you to go check. Though that can be a source of good deals, ironically it's more likely to generate the "I know what I got" type.

Yeah when they say "just needs (something engine related)" I just go ahead and assume it will need a new engine and value it accordingly. Same goes for trans. I think its hilarious when it says "Just needs X component, you can buy them for $8 at autozone, I just haven't had time to mess with it." Right, you can double sale value of your car for $8, but you are just too darn busy.

In reply to Tom_Spangler:

When did people decide that if a problem is common its no longer a problem. As in "Theres rust around the rear wheels, but all silverados do that" So the rust bothered me before but since it happens a lot now it doesn't?

"Scrap yard will pay $500 for it" and the seller wants $750 to $1k. Last time I checked scrap is going for a lot less than $500 right now.

People selling salvage vehicles for top dollar.

People selling recently wrecked cars for the same price as a running one of same make/model.

Folks the appear to be curbstoneing/dealers/"private wholesaler" cars? I keep seeing a ton listed with minimal details, example http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/5110952540.html. Car has no plates, doesn't respond to emails but will pick up the phone, has "only own the car a few months", standard shots of all 4 sides of the car and inside. I'm trying to find a 5-6k, 04-07 accord/corolla/civic/etc for the gf to drive and see like 10-15 of these in the past 2 weeks, all different phone numbers but same basic layout.

  • me: has the engine been replaced?
  • seller: no.
  • me: then why does the valve cover say "05 accord - 75k" in oil pencil?
  • seller: mechanics write notes on engines all the time.

I see a lot of this crap too. Usually followed with "here is the title, and I know its signed over to someone else, but I have the correct change request form for you to take to the DMV".

This. I also refuse to meet any seller that won't meet me in a well-lit public area to check out the car.
