My MIL's wants an updated toilet installed (by me.)
White, elongated, medium height.
Looking at all the brands in the big box stores there seems to be a lot of gimmicks.
To those that have experience, is there one brand that is vastly superior?
American standard, for price to quality is probably the best. Kohler are nice but you're paying more for gimmicks and a name.
I forget the exact model I've been recommending, but look for American standard that flushes golf balls online. It's kind of middle of the road price wise, but the one I have has never had a problem, and neither have any I've sold my friends on.
I'm happy with my Kohler Wellworth. Most toilets can benifit from a little tweaking of the float/flap assmebly to get a better flush. Toto also has a good reputation.
Wouldn't it be nice if the restroom at the store had all the different models plumbed in so you could give a real test?
I have 2 tall, extended bowl Kohlers. Love them. Poo goes away every single time.

I had three Kohler Welworths, but I just replaced one with another Kohler that is two inches taller and has an elongated bowl. I love it and plan to buy two more.
Cue the debate about why you don't want tall toilets...

Not so much a brand thing as a style thing, im a big fan of flush to wall toilets. Makes external cleaning so much easier and they look nice and modern.
I'll be replacing my old s bend toilet in the next week or two, im not going to miss having to try and get around behind it to clean.

There was this one time that I really needed a toilet that could have flushed that golf ball, but nobody would have believed me if I hadn't fished it out and kept it.
Some of youse guys need to stop eating golf balls.

Along those lines,
Bemis "Whisper Close" "Easy Clean & Change" seat. No lid/seat slamming, and you can pop the entire seat/lid off with no tools to wipe down the top of the bowl. I hate trying to clean around the hinges on a normal seat.
I am glad you want white.. they replaced all the toilets at the club at work with black ones to be edgy... E36 M3 looks extremely nasty in a black bowel

Cheapest long bowl chair height at your choice of store. I miss mine from my parents house.

My new house has some with the shallow bowl. My brother calls them female toilets; I have to decide to hit the porcelain or the water, or hover. We bought the house from a nice lesbian couple, so I guess they never had that concern.
I'm going to replace them, but I will make sure that the replacements have the same whisper close feature. That is wonderful.
American Standard, tall, elongated bowl, golfball flusher is what I have. Comfortable enough for skimming a whole issue and can take the deuces.
I've got to look into that Bemis seat (I have a Bemis on there now, but just a regular one with metal hinges). Does the lid automatically close? SO has a habit of leaving it up, and that grosses me out.

If I owned a toilet company, I would name our top model the E36 M3 Storm
DeLuxe.
After a bit of research, I decided I would get a Toto Drake whenever I needed a toilet.

Drake is such a fitting name for a toilet
