I finished up Disco Elysium over the weekend. Really enjoyed it. Now I'm at a loss on what I want to play next.

Recently enjoyed games: Disco Elysium, Tunic, Spiritfarer, Hollow Knight, Fez, Hades

I like a broad range of gaming styles. Want a good single player experience. Something of moderate length that does not demand my life.

Top games in the running: Dead Space (newly remastered), Hi-Fi Rush, Stardew Valley

The mass effect trilogy. Avoid andromeda though, it's horrid.

I just finished my second passthrough of Hogwarts Legacy, pretty decent Skyrim clone.

Another vote for Mass Effect. They just remastered all three and released them as a collection a few years back. It's a fun sci-fi RPG/third-person shooter where your choices matter over the game series. The first game still shows it's age even after the remaster, it plays kind of clunky, but the sequels are amazing. I tend to be less critical of the newest game, Andromeda, than most but I'll admit, it does have issues and is best experienced by skipping pretty much every sidequest (they're all meaningless filler with no consequences or reward), and it's easily the weakest entry in the franchise.

If you haven't played Subnautica yet, I'm jealous.  It's an amazing immersion(hah!) game.  I haven't had time to try the sequel yet.

Currently I am really enjoying Backpack Hero and my son loves Lil Gator Game. The latter is a homage to og Zelda and it really great and cute. I think I am going to grab Remnant next time it is on sale as it looks really good.

No man's sky. Absolutely no lengthy commitment, regular free updates with unique rewards, unbelievably huge universe, super deep basecrafting, cool spaceships, procedurally generated plants/animals/terrain/weather/just about everything.

Edit- it also has the added benefit of me having strip mined enough planets to set myself up with what is effectively a billionaire making machine. You want cool expensive E36 M3? I got you.

This game is utterly fantastic.  So is the sequel.

That price is hard to stomach though... Steam sales are so good.  Spring sale should be really soon right?

Bioshock remaster was pretty good if you haven't played it.

I've got a couple hundred hours into Stardew Valley. It's weird, especially since I'm an achievement whore and some of the achievements are pretty off the wall. There's no real end game, and not a lot of direction, but it's easy to get stuck playing.

Cyberpunk is finally in a good working state.

The star wars Jedi games with the gay cult leader kid from Shameless were really good and there's a new one dropping soon.

Honestly I'm pretty bored with most games. Between the hundreds I own and the hundreds more on gamepass, I feel like I spend more time trying to find something to play than actually playing.

Recently I played Death Stranding, there is a lot of dumb and annoying but it's very addicting. The Last of Us, I decided to play it as I watched the show made it interesting, I am now playing part 2 (show isn't out yet).

Same, I usually end up on BF4 or iRacing. I just don't get as excited about new games most of the time because of the lack of creativity and the amount of microtransactions involved in the gaming industry.

I can't agree with this. I tried to like it, I really did. But it was berkeleying pitfall with lightsabers. I wanted battles, not jumping across trains.

I had a similar problem with God of war. I'm not a big mythology fan, but I was willing to give it a go. Epic boss battles, beautiful graphics, ultra highly rated.....

It's God of door puzzles, and listening to Greek mythology that I just don't care about. I might finish it one day.

That's an interesting thought. I have it, and played through when it came out. I did not have nearly as many bugs as others have claimed. I might give that another playthrough with a different build.

Death Stranding ended up annoying me too much. I didn't have an issue with the core mechanics or gameplay loop. That was fine. I got really tired of the interminable cut scenes. Someone needed to tell Kojima to trim some unnecessary fluff.

Last of Us is something I should look into. Looks like it's releasing on Steam... tomorrow.

Do you like station wagons?

    Duh!  Yeah!

Have you ever wanted to use one to fight an alien invasion?

   Of course!

Then this is for you (not yet release on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1458140/Pacific_Drive/ )

Survive the anomaly-filled Olympic Exclusion Zone with a car as your only lifeline. Scavenge resources from abandoned research sites, load up your trusty station wagon, and drive like hell to make it through alive. This run-based driving survival adventure arrives in 2023.

$60 for a 10 year old game seems kind of a lot. I am tempted though. Slay the Spire is a great game, I still play it almost daily.

Streets of Rogue is cheap and hilarious:

It is also never the same level twice.

My kids really enjoyed "Grounded" but right now I'm playing through "River City Ransom" on the Switch virtual console.

This leads me to believe that you all need to branch out from mainstream games. There is a LOT of really good stuff out there from mid and small companies. FTL, Outer Wilds, Backpack Hero, Vampire Survivor, Untitled Goose Game, Risk of Rain 2, and Nobody Saves the World are all great games that I have played recently and some (FTL) for many years. Hi Fi Rush is AAA but really interesting and unique.

Played them, beat them, except for goose game.

I play everything I can, except jrpgs and call of battlefield clones. Gamepass helps a lot with indies and bigger name releases I wouldn't pay for.

My big gripe is that everything launches broken these days except for the small indies, who have mostly embraced an 8bit aesthetic that was fine in the 90s but pretty underwhelming on today's hardware. I've also been gaming since Atari 2600 days, lots of stuff just feels like the same old thing again and again with better graphics or different stories.

But you have reminded me of more.

Ancestors, the human kind odysse is freaking spectacular and a really bizarre game. You start about 6 million years ago and slowly work your way to 500k years ago, as primate ancestors to humans. Learning skills, making tools, expanding territory, overcoming fears and the wild to evolve. Really really frustrating to get started, but it plays very well. The tutorial is essentially "left stick moves, right stick looks, here's left hand and right hand controls. Good luck."

Subnautica and Subnautica below zero are both awesome first person survival games. Subnautica especially, really filled me with awe in ways not many games have. The first reaper encounter, the accomplishment of finishing the first submarine, the beauty of the lava castle.

Vampire survivors was a fun bullet hell, but the point of the game is to get to where you don't even touch the controller, which defeats the point of playing after a while.

I recently went back to Brutal Legend. More of an RTS adventure game, but with Jack black, and a freaking metal soundtrack.

Atomic Heart looked fun on the surface, but is so ridiculously broken I can't recommend it yet.

Hardspace Shipbreaker was a fun completion, but got repetitive. Tearing down space ships for fun and profit.

If you're into walking sims, Road 96, Truberbrook, and Firewatch are all pretty decent in their own ways. You'll need a guide for Truberbrook though most likely, some of the puzzles make no sense whatsoever.

Maneater was a fun distraction. Not much for replayability, but being a shark terrorizing a town is a nice change of pace.

We happy few. I still need to go back and finish it, but that's a fun twisted little game. Check a trailer or two.

I think my decision is made.

Got Jedi: Fallen Order, since it's on sale for $4 right now, and I know I can get $4 of fun out of that.

Then Hi-Fi Rush after.

Going to add Subnautica to my want-list.

I think I do a pretty broad mix of games at all different levels of development. If anything, I lean more towards unique Indies.

That's only the remaster. A PS3 copy is cheap- and if you've got ps+, the remaster was free. That's how I did it.
