Walking Dead comes back tomorrow. In that zombie ("walker") universe, what weapons would you carry?

I would try to run two parallel systems, an anti-zombie setup and an anti-people setup.

For zombies, because the show depicts them as having soft (decayed?) skulls, and basically any injury to the brain being "lethal" I'd stick with 22LR. 22's are by far the best selling ammo, they are hilariously easy/light to transport (I have a bucket of 1400, it's neither large nor heavy), and can be suppressed somewhat because of their relatively low muzzle velocity (depending on the make/model of the round).

My 22LR zombie weapons would be a cut-down Ruger 10/22 SBR, with a good, easy to disassemble suppressor, EOTech reflexive sight, iron M16 style back-up sights, and a folding/collapsible stock. The zombie sidearm (which might not get carried much, but...) would be a 22LR revolver, probably a J-frame S&W. I haven't run into a 22LR semi-auto that is reliable enough for zombie duty, you don't want to be clearing jams in the midst of a hoard of the undead.

For the living I'd go with popular guns in popular calibers. M4/Colt 6920 in 5.56 NATO and a Glock 17 or 19 in 9mm. Both reliably kill with decent shot placement and both should have plentiful supplies of ammo and repair parts.

Pretty sure we've covered this before, the answer continues to be:

Fire axe. No worries about ammo or noise. Additionally, you have a useful tool for breaking into places to get supplies, or even chopping fire wood.

Something with reuseable ammo or ammo I could make myself without too much trouble; remember the infrastructure has been crippled meaning the supply of powder ammo is finite, it takes a working infrastructure to keep the Wal Mart etc shelves full. That means I'd lean toward a crossbow for distance work and an axe of some sort for close quarter work. I'd have a powder weapon of some kind also but wouldn't spray shells the way it's depicted on the show.

We'll just get Congress to pass a law making it illegal to be a Zombie and participate in any Zombie behavior. That should stop them undead in their tracks!

For the walkers I am with the baron and mndsm. "long range" melee weapon like a two handed sled. If I can have a second weapon, then a cross bow and a lunch and learn on bolt manufacturing. Silence is key. Learn to be a damn Ninja!

Have you had a chance to play with a Browning Buckmark for a 22 auto? Mine is dead reliable and one of those with a Tac Sol barrel and suppressor makes for a very quiet tool. If you are going to use any sort of firearm for a long term situation you better have a TON of ammo stored. Remember you won be going to the store to buy more and in a situation like that it would disappear before the food would. Having a weapon that can use more than one type of ammo that is common would help as well. Rick's Python is actually good because it can shoot .357 Mag and .38 Spl. A standard AR can use a drop in conversion kit to allow use of .22 LR ammo.

Problem with a crossbow is they are slow to reload. The compound bow style action most of the modern ones use can also be delicate. You would be better off with a recruve bow. However yeah a crossbow does have cool points. There is actually a crossbow "upper" that you can get to pin onto an AR 15 lower. A Cold Steel Trench Hawk would make for a good addition along with a solid fixed blade knife.

The sledge hammer would get very heavy very fast and would be slow. The Firemans axe would be faster and not as hard on you to use.

Personally I would start with a firearm combo like a supressed AR with a .22 drop in for when I need it. Supressed Buckmark for quiet work and my SIG 220 for last line of defense. I would more than likely have a bow and a couple bladed things stashed away for when ammo ran dry.

I'd get a Halligan tool and a .22 as well as some kind of sidearm.

Nobody ever thinks of air rifles. You can feed yourself fairly well with a few of thse. I'd one or more in large caliber (.45 or .50) because you can cast your own projectiles if you find a source of lead. You can do that for the small ones, too, but why bother? Squirrels die just fine from BBs, and you can get thousands of rounds for fairly cheap.

Like this:

Probably more than one, with several being Crossman 2200 type models, a few with remote air supplies and a very high powered hand pump.

Not all of them are for me, we have to arm the whole family.

I'd get the hell out of the city.

The sledge is something that you would get used to, plus think about the muscles you would develop hauling that around! I am more interested in not getting into situations where I need the speed of the Recurve also. I am thinking given my current skill set that a crossbow would be a better "out the door" weapon. In time I admit the recurve is better.

I'd probably go for a scuba tank with a regulator and a modified nail gun or air chisel. That or a dialed up paintball marker with ball bearings or marbles. Eventually I'd find a slaughterhouse and grab a penetrating captive bolt stunner.

Similarly, I'd rather a pike, halberd, or poleaxe over the hammer.

Yeah, I just want one with the Axe bit on the other side. Multi tool. I'd also want a light weight carbon steel machete, somethimg quick closer quarters. Ka-bar would be nice too. Firearms are tough. Too loud and you're a target. Too quiet and the caliber is likely too small to be effective in am emergency. Police issue glock due to relative parts availability and reliability. Ak silenced if I'm lucky, 308 win otherwise. Mossberg would be nice but that's just getting too heavy.
