Bit of a back story, I work in dealer support for an online car buying website (think AutoTrader except not) one of the dealerships on the program has the original 2003 Mustang GT concept car for sale for a whopping $350,000 it has an incomplete VIN, it's not road legal and is sold on a bill of sale. I know it's a cool piece of automotive history, but is it worth $350,000?

I think it is worth it. It isn't worth that to ME, but it is worth that to some Mustang collector out there who will pay for it. Therefore it is worth it.

I'll bet Jay Leno would buy, if he were made aware of it. The rarer the car, more he likes it.

If I were going to spend $350,000 on a piece of Mustang history, it better look a whole lot more like this.

Jay likes cars he can drive on the street, so my guess is he wouldn't be interested.

That is very easy to figure out.

If someone pays that for it, then that is what it is worth.

Probably sitting on a T-Bird chassis along w/ it's engine. As w/ concept cars it's merely a styling exercise and not a real driver in the sense. Some Mustang fanatic w/ deep pockets will Pony up the money. Not my bag tho.

I don't think that is an unreasonable price for a historical piece like that. Hope it is documented to the moon to support the price. There is a serious subculture of prototype and show car collectors. This would take some specific marketing at the right auction or through discrete channels, not a general internet ad.

Some people with the means and the passion want to collect things that no one else can have or duplicate. This would qualify.

May I point out that 350k is a bargain for that. I'm sure Ford paid at least 10x that for it the first time.

Agreed. While he's profiled non-legal cars (prototypes, movies cars, etc.) on his site before and driven them on the streets around his garage with a police escort, I am near certain none of them were owned by him.

Given what some old prototypes have sold for, the asking price for the concept Mustang doesn't sound unreasonable. If a buyer actually comes forward and wants it, I'm sure there's some wiggle-room in that price.

I wouldn't give them anything for it. If I can't drive it, there is no reason for me to own it.
