Also, my weird observation: Coke is better than Pepsi, but Cherry Pepsi is better than Cherry Coke.

I feel like Coke and Pepsi are two distinctly different things. Like cookies and Oreos.

They serve a similar purpose, but when you're craving one, the other is no substitute.

If anyone has ever been to Disney Springs here in Florida, we have the Coca-cola Store Rooftop Beverage Bar and there you can try a flight of Cokes from different countries of all different flavors. My personal favorites?

  • Fanta Apple Kiwi from Thailand
  • Smart Watermelon from China

There is one flavor that I can't remember the name of or which country its from but its my number one because it tastes just like a drink from Nicaragua called Rojita that I used to share with my mom as a kid.

Pepsi Zero Sugar and it's not even close.

I used to be junkie-hooked on the stuff. Now I only go through about a six pack every month, but every one is like a tiny vacation for my mouth.

Ok, I've been holding in my Coke vs Pepsi rant for long enough. Here's my theory:

Coke was invented and became popular earlier than Pepsi, and many people were probably drinking it at a warmer temperature than we consume it at today, some even drinking it lukewarm in places where refrigeration was not available. Its flavor is not as sweet, but it is "refreshing" at any temperature (probably also because it contained cocaine). Pepsi was invented a little later, and is sweeter. Because the human tongue does not detect sweetness as well at lower temperatures, Pepsi is a drink best served ice cold. Coke tastes less sweet when served cold and its flavor is more balanced when it's served not-quite-ice-cold. Some people like that.
If I'm drinking a soda, I'm in it for that dopamine hit from the sweetness. That's why Pepsi is my choice for cracking open a cold one.

Vanilla Coke is pretty tasty. Always makes me think of the diner scene in Pulp Fiction. When I was young, I was 13-14 when I first saw it, I didn't understand the "How do you want your milkshake? Martin & Lewis or Amos & Andy?" Was asking vanilla or chocolate.

I thought colas and such were always served chilled from drugstore fountains before they were sold in cans and bottles.

My local grocery chains used to stock Mexican Pepsi too but haven't seen them in a long time. They were good too.

Where are you from that you can still find this?

I barely remember getting it as a kid on vacation somewhere like 30 years ago. It popped into my head about 10 years back and my friend looked at me like I grew another head when I tried to explain it and ask if he's seen it because he travels more.

That makes a lot of sense. I like both, but I've noticed that they have different tastes depending on how cold/freshly poured they are. When fresh and ice cold, I like Pepsi. But you need to drink it right away. If I get a Big Gulp or it's not as cold, Pepsi doesn't taste as good as it sits, Coke is more consistent. I thought it lost carbonation faster, but the temp change makes more sense.

I don't think I've ever had it, but I remember seeing it in Kentucky or Indiana. I thought for sure it was only in those states, but their website shows it is available across a lot of the eastern half of the country. Not widely available.

If their "Find It" part of their website is accurate, it is within 50 miles of you:

Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper and MT. Dew are my favorites. Oddly I like Coke with food and Dew when driving.

Has anyone noticed a flavor difference depending on the container? Coke is best from a 2 liter or can, 20 oz bottles are bad. Dew is best from a 20 oz, not great from a can. Pepper is about the same from anything.

I hadn't thought about it but it makes a lot of sense.  We were a 7up house growing up, so while I learned more than any normal person should about soda we didn't get into Coke vs Pepsi. Now for colas I drink Diet Pepsi unless RC is available, but also like a cream soda once in a while.

Cracker Barrel sells singles. But I'm back to Kentucky a few times a year and buy it there. Last time I bought 24 pk of bottles at the Sam's club in bowling green.
