I'm sorry... was there something I implied by pasting the definition of the word according to Webster? I think you are probably an over sensitive ninny who is, in fact, implying his own superiority by saying that its wrong to use the word RETARD in any form or fashion.
The word RETARD is the softer more PC word for IDIOT, which was put in to place by those who felt IDIOT was too strong a word when (presumably) 6th graders were overusing it as an insult. What do you call that thing you do when your distributor is too far advanced? Go on, its ok. You can say it. No one will think you are exhibiting an air of superiority.
I'm not the one trying to justify using the word. I'm assuming you are posting the definition so you can feel better about any word.
So as long as it gives you an air of superiority, keep justifying and using it.
Good luck with that.
Roger, will do. Wait... what if I'm not getting that "air". Hmmm... okokok I know!
I will continue to refer to people who do silly things like over-tighten a bolt because they forgot the golden "righty-tighty/lefty-loosy" rule as retards but... in order to not offend ninny-types who might overhear, I'll spell it RETAHD and pronounce it as Reeeeetaaaahhhhhhdzzz to further distinguish it from any negative connotation. I will try to feel superior but I don't think it's as necessary.
As a result of your obviously enlightened sensibility I think I've changed for the better. Thank you.

You seem to be missing the point that it is COMPLETELY unnecessary to spell it OR pronounce it. You can get you message across in other ways, like saying, "That was silly", or "How's that working out for you, pal?"

I'm not missing the point at all. I'm just being a Bob Costas for my own amusement.

Defaming Bob Costas is just retarded.

And people who don't curse or use words that they consider "offensive" often have a sense of moral and/or intellectual superiority over those who do...and round and round we go.
I hear the phrase "there's no need to 'resort' to name calling" here quite a bit. Personally, I feel that getting offended or hurt by name calling is pretty childish; i.e. HARDEN THE berkeley UP!!!
(Not directed at you, alfadriver, just an observation.)
PS: This thread still sucks.

The term 'dork' is highly offensive to those of us who quote Star Trek dialogue and spend lots of time on the internet. Please use the term 'technically gifted but socially disabled' from now on.

As a SuperDork I demand a retraction. It is just not necessary to resort to 'dork this' or 'dork that' and I find it quite offensive.

Officially, requirements dictate over 1K entries to achieve "dork" status. This thread needs a lot more entries to qualify.
Hopefully, it will never get close.

As one of only 10 people on this board who have achieved powerdork or higher status, I assure you I am in agreement.
IIRC, I was the first one who never got to be a Tard. In fact, I remember starting a thread on the old board called "Almost a Tard, just a Dork.

Not really, but I do have to admit that I'm concerned about the "Kick a Ginger Day" thing catching on...
I already suffered the consequences of that.... and apparently there are videos to prove it. I'm a ginger... and my ass is still sore.
I'm half german, half irish, half english, half indian and full on retarded. I think I am justified in being able to use the word 'tard as much as I'd like.

Nope. Challenged means there actually might be hope.

I don't think this is a question of loosening up. My objection, and what may have saused this E36storm was to the idea that you could call someone an offensive word, as long as they thought it was a compliment. Specifically, that one could call a developmentally-delayed person a 'tard without being insulting, because he or she may perceive the comment to it to be a compliment.
That's still offensive.
Actually I think it would be more accurate to say there are too many sandy pricks in this thread.
Jus' sayin'

Yeah. Time to loosen up, get drunk, go downtown and kick a few Gingers.
I'm locking this thread because it's stupid, I hate it and because I just can.
