OK, finally, it's time to drop IE6 for something else. It's an older computer with very limited RAM. It's slow enough now, I don't need something that will slow it down more
(like Norton antivirus) I want to export my "favorites" over to the new browser. And I use yahoo for almost everything. What say you and why? Remember, very limited RAM, Windows XP, running yahoo for favorites. I'd appreciate your help.
Thanx
I have recently been using Firefox after a lifetime of putting up with IE in it's different versions. I love it! You can import your favorites from Explorer too, so you don't have to re-learn the interwebs. I especially like the adblocker ad-on, it makes pages load so much faster. In general I would not go back to explorer, Firefox has a lot fewer errors, a LOT fewer. I tried Chrome, it was OK, but it was still in Beta when I was trying it out.

Firefox runs on damn near anything- i'd go with that. I just upgraded to FF4 on the rocket, and it's nice.
I've used Firefox for years. I've played with IE and Opera a little, but sticking with Firefox until I see a compelling reason to change.

Another vote for Firefox.
Does chrome run with a smaller footprint than firefox? I use firefox myself, as I personally don't care much for Chrome, so don't know. But most of the stuff I don't like about Chrome is all personal preference type stuff. Firefox isn't a hog on the scale of IE, but it's not exactly slim and trim either.
Yep, FF is the bomb. A clearly better alternative to IE. Ive been using it now for a few years and refuse to go back.
I have a mobile version of opera on my cell, and its far and away better than the stock browser. I only mention opera because my phone is terribly underpowered, and opera seems to have it humming right along on the interwebs. I have never tried it on a desktop, but Ive heard good things.

Firefox is definitely the way to go.

I've found Chrome to be less of a memory hog than FF. In particular, I use a flavor called Rockmelt (http://www.rockmelt.com/) because of the integrations with Facebook and Twitter...if most of what you do is surf the web, check email and FB, Rockmelt's a great way to go. It also automatically syncs your bookmarks across multiple computers.
The only problem I've encountered with Chrome/Rockmelt is its refusal to launch the lyrics/bio links from Pandora. It's probably some strangeness with Flash. For me, it's livable.
I've used Chrome almost exclusively since it was first released. Current versions are much more fully featured than the originals, but still lack some of the bells and whistles of other browsers. I like the lean interface and speed, but it does choke from time to time on certain Flash-heavy sites.
I LOVE Chrome, but I'm not sure how it will do with limited RAM available. The price is right, though, so it can't hurt to try.

I use Firefox, Opera lite on my phone. I tried Chrome but just didn't like it as much as FF.
I would give Opera a try - it's usually pretty good on resource constrained machines. The only downside is that it's not very well known in the US so a lot of websites go a bit funky in its presence.

This is true...Opera is an elegant and light browser, imo. I used to use it when testing UI changes to websites because it's a quick way to spot problem areas in your website. I especially loved the mouse gestures, which translate well to mobile touchscreens. For more info on gestures, see http://www.opera.com/browser/tutorials/gestures/. Keep in mind that they were doing this 10-12 years ago...very innovative at the time!
I'll admit to being fond of Rockmelt for two reasons: 1) Social media junky and 2) I worked with several of the developers at other software companies, so when I have complaints, I have phone numbers. ;)

I've been using Opera since version 3. It's quick, and will work on anything. Haven't tried 11 yet, but I've got 9 & 10 across my various systems and they work beautifully. Never going to switch. The disadvantage is that some modern websites are apparently designed by ham-fisted numbskulls and it hiccups occasionally. No one tests for it so sometimes advanced features don't work. (Note: are you listening GRM? How long ago did I complain about the next & previous photo buttons now?) It doesn't like the Jalopnik redesign much at all, but then again, I don't either.
Seriously, somewhere in Canada I still have a 486 with Windows 95 and Opera 5 that is still somewhat usable. It boots in seconds compared to a new wizz-tastical Vista POS thing too.
I run Chrome on everything at home, They are all ancient old terdbuckets and the efficient use of resources is helpful.
Another vote for the fox.

And Opera is to any of those like a good craft beer is to "Pabst Blue Ribbon." Double zing?
